Anderson WDH With Picts

I decided on the Anderson set up and thought I would post the info here.
My tv is a 2004 Lexus GX470 and is the lightest duty tow vehicle I have ever used to tow with. I never liked the feeling of the tail wagging the dog. So I did a little research and decided the Anderson should work on this short wheelbase vehicle, and the Rockwood 2306 which is around 4500 to 4700 lbs wet.(I haven't been to the scales yet so this is just a guess...) The install went well, and took around 3hrs. I posted a few picts. One pict is showing the set screw location. I drilled the trailer frame to create an indent that the set screw could seat into. I towed around 130 miles this weekend and overall it worked pretty well. I spent about 4hrs test driving the rig, before the trip, taking measurements of the trailer and tv height at different settings.I got the front end dropped around 3/8 of an inch when hooked up. The truck is running Air Lift bags in the rear, so I settled on about 45 psi in the bags. I plan on calling Anderson after the Holiday weekend to verify my install. I really like not having to haul around the old style WDH.The set up is easy, with no heavy lifting to do. The triangle piece and chains just un hook with a cotter pin and your done, no bars to remove or deal with.

Smile Picts of tt hitched up

The trailer jack is off the ground in that one photo. Here is a couple shots of it in the parking lot where I came back and took measurements etc.The trailer was level within 1/2 inch front to back. Not sure what the front end was doing in that shot. The first few go arounds proved the wdh was not adjusted correctly, as I had a pretty loose feeling up front. After measuring I confirmed the front end had not dropped from the unloaded stance. On the final adjustment, I was able to get the front end down around 3/8 to 1/2 inch from the unloaded measurement. The handling and ride improved also. I'm not certain its completely dialed in yet, but its pretty darn good.

Noticed you have above 5 or so threads showing. If necessary don't worry about cranking them down more if need to shift the weight back to the front. The Andersen does not do a real good job of transferring weight. I love mine, and I have 9 threads showing.

Hey Scotty,
Yes. 5 threads is right on. I was wondering about cranking it down some more. Thanks for the heads up! So far love the way it has performed. Need to get it on the open hwy with a little wind to really see how it does. On this trip I had 3 bikes on the rear bumper with a hitch mounted carrier😳 had a full tank of water to try and counterbalance the bikes. Worked great. I have been looking at ways to move the bikes either inside where the dinette table is, or possibly up front on the trailer tongue with a mount...but that's another discussion altogether. 😃

So good so far. as long as the TV is on or within 1/2 inch of unloaded height and the steering feels solid and no sway you're good to go.

Not sure how you can compare number of threads showing. If he had installed the frame members 1/2" forward or backward, seems the thread count would be different.

Roo. Yes thats correct. For the most part following the instructions, in a standard installation (if such exists) they have you extend the chains with brackets out along the frame as far as it will go. Thats the starting point from there. Then I would imagine the weight the the TT and TV would play into how much force is generated against the WDH?
