Problem with that, you don't know how the previous owner took care of it. You could be like me and have to put a lot of money in because the PO did almost nothing.

I thought about buying one but...... Wait to get it in since none on the lot, no price reductions offered, new turbo engine with limited experience. The engine is Italian from a company half owned by Fiat that has been doing marine diesels for years. The setup looks pretty sweet and promises up to 28 mpg when not towing. The diesel is actually small and HP is moderate, but 400+ ft lb of torque.
I opted instead for a RAM 1500 Laramie with the big Hemi. Got a nice discount from MSRP, maybe because the diesel was coming. Nice truck and I am not looking back, but if I had it to do next year, I would take a hard look at the diesel.

Also heard others are scrambling to catchup, and Tundra may offer a larger UN turbocharged cummins as an option next year (rumored).

Towing a Roo 23IKSS, so I have plenty of tow vehicle.

It's interesting to see how a half ton diesel effects the market between the high out put V6 & V8 1/2 ton trucks that are already available.
IMO, if I went to a half ton truck, it would be gas and right now, GM has the new 6.2 ecotech that is appealing for weekend haulers and daily driving folks.
420HP/460 ftlb torque @ 15mpg city/21mpg hwy mileage - non towing....pretty good for a half ton truck capable for 12K lbs of towing

that's what I have '14 1500 with the 6.2 max tow package and its my daily driver. I just couldn't justify an extra 25k-30k for an extra #1000 in towing. When we upgrade to a 5'er, I'll upgrade to the HD desiel.

How's your mileage around town (not towing)? Going to get a 2015 at the end of this year, and was looking at the 6.2L just in case I decide to go to a bigger trailer.

I'm getting around 12-13 around town. when I tow, I'm getting around 8-10. it tows my 3200bht with ease, even up the hills.

Not a separate company. They have tried to re-brand the Dodge truck as RAM. But it's still a Dodge.

Yep... just like that. All monies go to gm in your example like all ram sales money goes to fiat/dodge/ram or whoever owns them this year.

Our 2014 Dodge 1500 Laramie EcoDiesel (2 wheel drive) is impressive.
We drove 200 miles to pick up our 2014 Prime Time Tracer 235 Air travel trailer. We got 27 mpg driving 70-75 mph.
On the return trip we got 14 mpg at 65 mph. The truck had less than 4000 miles at that time. The GPS and the display features with u-connect are awesome!

That Ram 3.0 EcoDiesel combined with an 8 speed tranny (correct?) looks like an awesome option for those of us who use our TV as our daily driver... If they introduced a 2500 with something slightly bigger, like 4.0 vs. the big 6.7 Cummins, it would be an ideal choice for me since I need a little more haul capacity than the 1500 provides but still need to use the TV as my daily driver. IMO we are going to have some great choices in the next few years & I don't mind buying a truck 1-3 years old because they are built fairly rugged & hold up well even if the PO did not take as good of care as you would...

The truck is the best I ever had (2 Chevys: 6.0 gas & '06 diesel, GMC '85 diesel, old Nissan, and a ford).
Until this truck the last Chrysler (Fiat) was a '65 Plymouth sedan.
Everybody that rides in is ready to buy one!

I still think the Cummins 5.0 would match up nicely with a 2500.

It looks like Nissan is using the Cummins 5.0 (300hp) & it's supposed to get 23-24 mpg vs. the Fiat 3.0 (240hp) Turbodiesel which is supposed to get 26-27 mpg. However, there is a 4.0 V8 in the makings:
Quote:
Car & Driver says Fiat is developing a 4.0-liter V8 turbo-diesel engine that could develop 365 HP & 460 lb-ft of torque. For comparison, the 3.0-liter V6 churns out 275 HP & 443 lb-ft of torque. The engine will reportedly feature direction injection and Multijet technology. This could enable [it] to return at least 30 mpg. If the engine is approved for production it could be launched in 2016 and be offered internationally.
Although it won't get 30 mpg pulling a heavy/high profile 2500 truck/SUV, the Fiat 4.0 will provide 65 HP more at about the same mpg as the Cummins 5.0. However, the Cummins is made in the USA & will have a longer track record by the time I can afford to upgrade. And, of course it will all depend on what Ram & others choose to install. IMO folks buy Rams for the engine & tranny... The Hemi, Cummins & (now) Fiat Turbodiesel are all reliable choices.

I guess all railroaders think alike. I think Nissan is getting the prize with the 5.0... I carpool with a guy that has a Titan, and he's chomping at the bit to get the new diesel when it comes out... Yep, he's a railroader, too...

I agree, until they stop looking like Dodge trucks they will still be Dodge trucks. people can say what they will but I have owned Dodges and IMO they still look like my old Dodges. it is a stigma RAM will have to work hard to get past.
