Anyone Towing with a F150 3.3L V6?

Hi, We are looking at used trucks to tow our 2014 Grey Wolf 19RR (4100lbs) with and are considering a Ford F150 with a 3.3L V6 (NA not turbo). We love the simplicity of that platform and have had great support with Ford on other vehicles.

The truck is rated at 7700 lbs of capacity however having only towed with a V8 previously I would love any feedback on those towing with the 3.3L. We do not hot rod around and are fine taking it safe at 65 mph. We have traversed mountains in the past so terrain and hill capability is a concern. Thank you!

You're using the fictional website/brochure dry weight number. And the trailer is 24ft long.

Loaded for camping and toys, it will be much more.

As far as the truck, depending on how it's spec'd, its towing capacity could be as low as 5000lbs.

Fuel mileage won't be much better. The trailer's frontal air resistance is the great equalizer so gas engines will get pretty much the same mpg, no matter engine size. If you think you're going to get much better towing mpg, you won't.
Personally I wouldn't consider it for a trailer like yours, but live out West, where there's really mountains.

Motor Trend gave the 2018 F-150 3.3 NA V6 pretty steller reviews, with 290hp and 265ft/lbs torque, while pulling a 5K trailer. The review was based on a 4x2 Supercab XL with 3.73 rear axle.

Features editor Christian Seabaugh was impressed. "The little 3.3 has zero trouble towing its 5,000-pound trailer," he said. "Tow/Haul mode keeps the gears low and the engine roaring. No shift shock. Rock solid and stable. Super easy to park this trailer, too."

Any particular reason for the 3.3 non turbo for your motor selection? I know you say the simplicity, but can you further that for me?

We love our f150 with the 10 speed and our 26’ TT but we have the turbo motor.

I can't comment on the truck you are looking at but, what if in the future you decide you want a larger RV? Would this truck be able to handle a heavier trailer. Just food for thought.

Here is a link to the F150Forum towing section. Full of good info.

Which rear end is installed on the truck?

Yep, that makes a big difference in towing capacity but it will affect fuel mileage.
Like I said, it's how the truck is spec'd, that determines towing capacity and fuel mileage. And trucks come in much moore varied configurations, than cars.
Cab size, bed size, rear end ratio, engine, transmission, 4wd/2wd, different towing packages and multiple trim levels are examples.
