Auxiliary fuel tank

Looking to add an auxiliary fuel tank and wondering what people have paid out there and if they have installed them themselves. I find myself very handy with household construction but don’t work on cars, if easy enough I feel I could do it. Have a 2015 3500 dually so another 50+ gallons in tow would be phenomenal for us in our travels and would likely pay itself off by always being able to fill at the local Costco instead of paying 50 cents more a gallon at a gas station that’s hard to get into with a 41 foot camper. No I’d rather not carry a few 5 gallon containers with me. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

that is just what I did. I added a 60 gal tank in the bed of my 3500 chevy and then wired a solenoid with a rocker switch in my overhead console so i can fill the main tank while going down the road. I paid a just over $600 and it has been worth it. I've had it for 4 years and with the fuel savings it has paid for it's self, I can fill up near the RV parks instead of right off the interstate.

Does it have to be right up against the cab? I have a pace Edwards retractable tonneau cover and it rolls down into the bed about halfway. Would need to be probably a foot away from the cab.

I don't see any reason you couldn't place it where ever you would like but the closer to the cab you can get it the better as it keeps the center of gravity in the center of the truck and you also don't lose as much bed space. I have a 5th wheel so I placed mine as close the the cab as I could. placement also depends on what size tank you get.

Following this thread because I plan to get a retractable bed cover and an auxiliary fuel tank for our truck. Interested in seeing what others have or plan to do.

Although it’s only 37 gallons, this is the tank I’m considering. It’s designed for use with retractable bed covers.

Boy, they sure are proud of there tank, but I see why you need this style to fit under the cover. I looked at a retractable cover too but then i would had to of gone with a smaller tank so I went with the 60gal and put a Back flip brand cover on the truck (biggest piece of junk) but that's another story.

Yeah I’m trying to avoid these high priced tanks. I’d rather get rid of the retractable tonneau cover honestly
