B&W hitch

I purchased the B&W base unit for my Silverado. The instructions said I could install it so that the pin would sit over the axle or 2 inches behind the axle. My son who drives a truck for a living says the pin should be over the axle. I have a long bed 3500.

Over the axle or in front of if possible. I have the turn over ball with companion and have it 2 inches in front of the axle.
