I'm needing to purchase a ball for our new trailer going to be picking up next week. I have purchased a BlueOx SwayPro 1k, and pretty sure my Wildwood X-Lite 261BHXL uses a 2 5/16" ball. Is there a specific type of ball I should use on this camper / WDH? I think the SwayPro called for either a 1 1/4" or 1" shank, so I'd rather get the larger so don't have to use the spacer. Are one brand / type better then another? I hate to skimp and get one that may break later or something. My max loaded weight of the camper should be about 7500lbs I believe.
Thanks, I'm going to grab a socket while I'm out getting a ball today. Need find a torque wrench as well, need one that will do 450, but probably have to settle on 250, for the hitch adjustment bolts. And use a breaker bar and pipe for the ball to get the 450!
My recollection is that it has to be a thin walled socket as a standard socket was too thick to fit up in there. I didn't have a thin wall socket so I just jammed a huge screw driver up there to hold it till it bit. Hasn't worked loose yet, knock on wood.
Just doing the same today. 10K lb. rated Curt 2" ball with 1-1/4" shank. Calls for 450 Ft. Lbs, so I loaded it with a 350 Lb. tongue weight and my petite wife at 100 lbs. Did not need to use a socket to hold the bolt, as the lock washer held it from turning much.
Center of the ball to the contact point on the tongue coupler is 12 inches. Pipe wrench is on the flats of the ball base, not the ball - lest anyone think me a Redneck.
