Yes, stay away from the 6.0 and 6.4 power stroke. 7.3 or 6.7 are great. But the 6.7 takes DEF. Unless it has been deleted. I have a 16’ F-350 SRW with the 6.7 and tow a 19’ Vengeance 388V16. It’s 18,000lbs loaded. Toes it great.

Best truck for pulling 5'er
I'll start by saying I am satisfied with my '14 Ram 2500 4X4 Crew Cab with a 6.7 Cummins Diesel. The only thing I would like to change is to do away with DEF. To put it plainly, DEF sucks. It is costly, robs power, and is prone to having stopped up injectors which will leave you unable to go more than 5 miles per hour. To top it off it does not do what it was engineered to do. If you have it removed you will void your warranty and you cannot trade it in or have it worked on at any dealership. NON DEF is for off road use only. This issue is not isolated to RAMS! DEF is mandatory by law on any diesel engine by any manufacturer sold after a certain year. Not sure but may be 2013. Other than the DEF, which has only given me a problem one time and was covered under warranty, my RAM is a beast. I pull a 2016 Vengeance Toy Hauler that is 39'5" and weights 14K before I load my toys. In GA, FL, AL and SC I average around 11 mpg. I have tendency to travel at or slightly above the posted speed. I have a short bed and therefore have a manual slide hitch. I would advise anyone with a short bed of any make to spend the extra money to buy a good hitch. I don't know the brand and model but a friend has a hitch that automatically slides back when turning sharp. I learned the hard way that if you don't slide to the rear position when turning sharp you can impact the corner of your cab with your 5'er. Just a little added info for pulling a 5'er.

Ford 6.0 Ltr
Been reading a lot of things about the Ford 6.0 . This is a true story. I used to sell for a major Max dealer and was able to buy three vehicles a year before they went to the block. I actually found a 2006 F250 with 37,000 actual miles. Lariat model. Catch was 2 wd. Not 4wd. No snow here, only beaches. Doing the maintenance things including the EGR cleaning regularly. Gotta say, never had a Diesel, never a Ford ( GM guy) but this truck is absolutely amazing. Pulls like a freight train. Starts flawlessly, no smoke. I’m rolling the dice with the positive feedback, on the 6.0 and hoping to get years of use from this rare gem. For those people looking for a rare diesel not beat up, they are out there! Keep looking !! Love this truck

It's Cummins. There is no "g".
Our friends have one and love it, but the ride quality is more like a "buckboard" than a civilized vehicle.
We love our Chevy Silverado Duramax 2500 HD, crew cab and standard bed. We tow a Cardinal 35-footer with a Pull-Rite hitch that automatically swings back on sharp turns. Very worthwhile choice for the kind of driving we do on backroads with sharp curves. We just went over 100K miles. The Onstar feature is worth its weight in gold.

Just 3-4 days after I had my oil changed at the dealership, I got an engine light . Took it back and found that the DEF heater malfunctioned. Lucky for me (being a Friday by then) they were able to replace it in about 4 hours as I had plans on getting my 5th out of storage the next day.

Avoid all Fords with the 6.0 and 6.4 diesel
Someone said the 6.7 ford was the year before the 6.0 and they are incorrect. The 7.3 was used by ford for years then the 6.0 replaced it in 2003/2004. Then in 2008 the 6.4 replaced the 6.0. Avoid the 6.0 and 6.4 Fords. The 7.3 are very good and the newer 6.7 that started in 2011 are good also. If it were me I would get a 5.9 Cummins or deleted 6.7 Cummins or any year Duramax that does not have a CP4 injector pump. The CP4 pumps come in the 2011-2016 trucks and have been know to have catastrophic failure taking out the whole fuel system and requiring replacement of the whole system including injectors. This is caused by tiny metal particles in the whole system. This can cost $15,000-$20,000 dollars and is only covered by warranty if you are still under warranty.

I'm having a good run with nearly the same truck (mine's 4wd) now with 110K miles (60K mine). In addition to maintenance, you need to monitor this engine, and change the coolant to Cat Spec ASAP. A coolant filter and adding lubricity to the fuel to protect the injectors were high on my priority list. I did the "blue spring fuel pressure mod" and went to the Bullet Proof Diesel FICM in due time as maintenance v mod opportunites arose. The information you need to know is here:

So far for me...changed tranny lines to Fleece because stock lines leaked. Fleece lines seem solid, no more leaking. One glow plug went out, changed them all. Normal filter and fluid changes. I run Stanadyne performance formula additive with every fuel fill up. So far so good.

33IK
how do you like pulling the 31IK with the 2500? we have a 2016 F250 Lariat 6.7 4X4 Crew Cab and really like the 31IK we recently looked at - seems this may be close to max for the F250. thanks in advance for everyone's views and comments
