brake wiring schematic needed

I have a Sandpiper toyhauler than I am rewiring the brakes on and I need to find a wiring schematic as my junction box melted. Problems started when my dual 12v batteries died. then my kid pulled my safety wire out. I stuck it back in but brakes stayed locked. I found rodent marks on the brake wires underneath so i repaired. Still locked. We have a trip this weekend and I need to get it going tomorrow. Any ideas where I can find what I need?

Thank you

I've never seen one, but I believe it's pretty simple. Wire from battery to emergency switch, then one wire to each brake (might be one wire to each side, which then splits into two wires, one to each wheel on that side). Another ground wire coming out of each brake, usually terminated on the frame with a screw.

7-Way RV Trailer Connector Wiring Diagram
Question:
trailer connector wireing diagram. need to know which color wire go to which post.

Expert Reply:
When wiring a trailer connector, it is best to wire by function, as wire colors can vary. We have an excellent wiring diagram on our website, I will provide you a link so you can look at it.

If you are looking at the inside of the trailer connector where the wires mount to the terminals starting at the notch at the top and working clockwise:

1:00 is Black and 12 volt power
3:00 is Green and Right Turn and Brake
5:00 is Blue and Brake Controller
7:00 is White and Ground
9:00 is Yellow and Left Turn and Brake
11:00 is Brown and Tail and Running Lights
Center is Purple and is Optional Reverse

I recommend using a circuit tester like part # 40376 to verify your connections.

I attached a picture to that shows how the connector should be wired.

Here's what I believe the wiring will look like; if not exact, very similar.

I had an issue where the safety wire pulled out (tight turn, short cable snagged on hitch), and the brakes locked on. I found out that the Tekonsha controller in the tow vehicle was locking them on and had to be reset by killing power to it, i.e., unplugging its plug and re-plugging it.

wiring

Question about the center fuse link. Attached to the bottom is my ACC black wire that goes to the pigtail that connects to the towing vehicle. my question is the what goes to the top? the black wire that comes from the RV itself? Because that one is hot. Initial problem was that the jbox internals caught fire after a short and I'm trying to sort the mess out. Had to put a new break-a-way switch in as well. I cannot find a break-a-way box in the trailer. I have put in calls to Forest River Sandpiper but they have not bothered to answer the phone or return messages. I also replaced the fuse link as melted parts don't really work for me. Any help would be appreciated.

It would be better if you could get a team member to merge this with your other thread.

So the black wire at the bottom of the breaker in the j-box is hot when the key in the TV is on? If that's correct then the positive wire from the RV goes on the other post of the breaker. That helps charge the battery(s) when your plugged into the TV.

Not in this case. Trust me I stared at google schematics for well over an hour before I found this forum.

Yes. bottom is hot when key is on. The black wire coming from the trailer is hot constant. Assuming because it's somehow connected to the batteries. I don't have a black wire on the battery post though. It's hard to trace as it goes up into the 5th wheel and then into the trailer. I have looked and I cannot find a break-a-way box anywhere. Only devices I can find are the jack motor, pump and slide out motor

That black wire from the RV probably terminates in the converter/power panel or on another breaker near the battery(s).

Do you have a volt meter and know how to use it? Probably required for this.

unplug the trailer and disconnect the battery.

You need to identify the ground wire 1st. you can do this by checking the resistance/ohms from each wire to the frame. the lowest should be the ground.

reconnect the battery and/or plug the trailer in measure the voltage between the wire identified above and the trailer end of the circuit breaker in the picture you posted. It should be over 12V.

if this checks out one by one connect the other wires to the trailer side of the circuit breaker and see what comes on, tails lights, turn signals. brakes clicking etc and connect these to the matching wires from the truck.

does the 5th wheel have a breakaway cable that you connect to the truck? if so trace it to the breakaway switch. If not does a 5th wheel require a breakaway device?
