Broken Husky 5th wheel hitch

When we came home from camping, we noticed a piece of metal shaped like a 9 in the bed of the truck after unhooking. While trying to find where it came from my husband noticed one of the rivets behind the jaws had failed. Our 5th is a 2014 Puma 253fbs and we pull it with a 2005 Dodge Ram Cummings 2500. The hitch is a Husky 1800 and we've had it a since we bought the trailer. Should we look at buying a heavier hitch? We dry camp in rougher mountain country and we were thinking that maybe the Cummings engine puts too much of a strain on the hitch while backing and getting into some of our camp spots? Suggestions on which hitch to get appreciated! Thanks

I like my B&W companion, others enjoy the Anderson. If it were me I would go to my local truck accessory store that sells hitches. They might be able to steer you in right direction and being local might have an ideal of your local terrain and be able to offer more specific advice.

I would first contact Husky with the pic and see what they say. I wouldn't think the engine itself would be a problem but could envision how rough terrain or maybe lack of lube could cause something like that. Not saying it was either, just trying to think of possible causes.

I have a Husky 5th wheel hitch. If it ever fails, I'll be looking at the Anderson, without a doubt. >90% of time, the large, heavy hitch is just a waste of truck bed space.

I second that! Get a B&W Companion hitch! Stay away from Reese (or any Horizon Global brand, DrawTite, Bulldog, etc.)! Here's what happens to you with Reese:

My Reese hitch broke loose from the truck bed and did $10K worth of damage.
You're lucky you noticed that broken part before something really bad happened. I pull a very similar 5th Wheel (2013 Puma 356QLB) into some rough areas on occasion with a 2014 Ram 3500 and after having owned two Reese hitches, I can say with certainty that the B&W is a much higher quality.
