Broken water pump on 2014 Ram

Was returning from a 3500 mile swing around the writer states and was driving 55mph about 2hours from home when all of the sudden the stearing wheel couldn't be turned the brakes barley worked and the temp gauge went fit normal to
Hot in 1 minute. It was 103 degrees out. Finally found a mechanics who came and looked at the broken fan belt and his checking of the engine found the water pump had two missing bolts which caused it to waiver and break the belt. It was a Sunday afternoon so after 5 hours in the hot sun we final were helped by a great fellow camper. And good Sam finally came through with a tow truck but only for the truck. The fellow camper pulled out tt to a nearby lake where we have had to park it until the Ram gets well After this long intro my question is has anyone else had trouble with Thier 2o14 desire Ram's water pump?

Here's a linc to the Ram towing forum. You might have better luck finding any similar situations.

My step father has a Ram, it's an older one (2006?) and has has 3 water pumps replaced and he did it this last time as they were always leaking. Never failed like that though!

Dodge Ram

Had a 2008 Ram. Water pump failed at very low mileage. Normal seal failure though. Had a bit of a battle getting Chrysler to fix it.

I'm guessing we are not talking about the cummins engine.
I would recommend some Loctite thread sealer on the install bolts.

I have a 2014 3500 no problems like that. What engine diesel or gas? As long as the pump is not broke bolts back in new belt and you should be good to go. How many miles and did you get extended warranty?

We had a 2014 gas RAM and put a LOT of mileage on it towing the Wildwood. Very late in the 2015 model year we traded it in for a RAM Diesel. Pulls the trailer with ease. Never had any issue with the 2014. So far no issues with the 2015 diesel.

Seems Cummins water pumps have some problems with bearing failure.
It happened to me @ 65K mi. on my 06 2500, belt jumped off after bearing froze. I was almost home and pulled up in drive with total everything failure.
I didn't want to pay the dealer $390. to replace it, went to NAPA, purchased one less than $60.00 with lifetime warranty, installed it myself and @ 110K no problems.
Bearing and shaft in old pump was smaller diameter than newer, seems like inferior products were dumped on us.
Cummins engines are bullet proof but not so for bolt-on's.

The engine is a Cummings with 15k on the truck. Service manager said it looks like the bolts were not tightened when the truck was manufactured. Glad it didn't happen while we were in the Colorado Montana mountains

Water pumps are a known weak point on the Cummins engines. Expect to replace it about every 75-100k miles. Get a NAPA with lifetime warranty and you won't have to buy another pump, you just have to deal with the labor of replacing it, although the NAPA pump went over 120k before going out.

We have a 2011 ram 2500 Cummins and just had same problem with the water pump failure and throwing the belt. Only 68k miles. Might get me another belt and napa pump and carry with me so will be ready when it happens again.

Other than the downtime and loss of use warranty should take care of it. I've had two Rams with Cummins in them the 98.5 3500 drove it for about 17 years with no major problems. just things with normal wear and tear on the truck. The 14 has about 20k and is running great just got back from about 2500 mile trip to the north east. Ram was a beast!

Yours was a bolting issue, Cummins had a 100K, 5 yr. Warranty when I purchased my 06, 2500. I didn't drive it much and let the 5 yr lapse, pump failed @ 65K, dealer said nada to free replace. Go with NAPA (life time warranty) if you are ever in the same situation.

I guess the newer ones are worse. The general rule on the 89- at least 05 was 150k put a pump on it. I ignored my own information and my belt would chirp the last 10-15k. I finally did some investigation and discovered the cause. Antifreeze on the belt. New Napa pump(and some cussing) good as it will be for xxx miles. I assure you it won't go another 161k before the next.

That's the second water pump issue in a Ram that I've heard of this week.

Replace water pump the easiest one I have ever done!

I feel for you first off- that is one of the worst things to happen engine getting hot no power steering, no brakes,
That stinks, I was lucky enough to have it happen to me just getting off the freeway and I turned to the next street and all the sudden no steering,

"WHAT THE HECK" overheating pulled in (not easy with no power steering and brakes), the belt didn't break just hanging there wouldn't come off,

anyway called AAA towed me home I looked online to see how to fix it, and there was an easier way.

The easiest water pump I have ever done.
Let me see if I can post these photos.

I am grateful I was not out on the road camping, (although I wish I was out on the road camping) anyway the repair was easy as pie,
At home being able to do it relaxed.
