Can you tow 187 tons with 70s Chevy 3/4 ton?

Apparently yes, as long as it's a 5th wheel and you beef up the springs...

Not unique anymore. Toyota had a Tundra tow a Space Shuttle and before that Ford had one of their pickups tow a train if I recall correctly.

I guess I was impressed because I believe Chevy was first with this ad in the 70s. The F150 train is new, and the Toyota ad was in the 90s?

Not to mention, the truck was a normally aspirated gasser with single rear wheels...

Naturally aspirated, one horsepower & never needed a recall

And....cue 50 people demanding to see the "payload sticker"....

side note - I would love to know what the pin weight was. I suspect that "Legal" and "Engineering" would slap a beat down on anyone from Marketing proposing something like this today.

Supposedly Ford got taken to task when they used the scene from the movie "Mr Majestyk", where the Ford Pickup went flying through the air during a chase, in one of their ads. Supposedly a "customer' did likewise with his truck, damaged the dickens out of it, then came after Ford to repair it. Claimed he saw it done in an ad and it should have held up when he did the same.

(I wonder who was holding his beer when he made the jump )

This must be why car ads today have a disclaimer that says, "closed course, professional driver, do not attempt".

M1 Abrams

This picture is of an M1 Abrams tank on a civilian lowboy trailer that the truck couldn’t pull up the hill near to where I live last Wednesday. The two heavy tow trucks in the picture tried, but couldn’t help to get it up the hill, so they had to bring in a D10 dozer to assist. That is a very heavily-used road and it was shut down for a couple of hours while they were getting the tank and the lowboy out of the way. Not something you see every day.

What do they weigh? About 60 tons?
