Can't find the 2020 Ram 1500 towing capacity chart

I am looking at buying a 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn V-8, Crew Cab, 5'7" bed, 3.92 rear axle. I can find the comprehensive Ram towing/payload capacity charts for 2019 and 2021, but not for 2020. The only 2020 Ram towing chart I can find is for the Tradesman version.

I'm sure I will not exceed the towing capacity given the 3.92 rear axle, but I would like to know the payload capacity.

Thanks

Ken

Depending on options the Big Horn will have you could see payload rating of around 1650 or so if you choose 4x4. My 2016 Express with tow package and 3.92 axle is 1820#.

I had this same issue and called RAM several times. Got a different answer each time. All their customer service reps are contracted out. I finally got an emailed answer from them. I also had 3.92 rear axle. Here it is:

Thank you for contacting Ram.

VIN: 1C6SRFFT2LN410154 - 2020 (DT) RAM 1500 BIG HORN CREW CAB 5'7" BOX 4X4

Ram Body Builder’s Guide Towing and Hauling Information (Payload and Maximum Trailer Weight are Estimated Values)

GVWR - 7,100 lbs. (The best source for GVWR information is the Vehicle Certification Label. The label is located on the driver-side door shut-face).

Payload - 1,760 lbs. (The best source for payload information for a specific vehicle would be the Tire and Loading Information Placard. The placard is located on the driver’s side B-Pillar or the rear edge of the driver’s side door).

Base Curb Weight - 5,341 lbs. (The best way to figure out the actual curb weight of a vehicle is to weigh the vehicle on a commercial scale).

Front Base Curb Weight - 3,163 lbs.

Rear Base Curb Weight - 2,179 lbs.

Front GAWR - 3,900 lbs. (The best source for Front GAWR information is the Vehicle Certification Label. The label is located on the driver-side door shut-face).

Rear GAWR - 4,100 lbs. (The best source for Rear GAWR information is the Vehicle Certification Label. The label is located on the driver-side door shut-face).

GCWR - 17,000 lbs.

Maximum Trailer Weight - 11,220 lbs. (Class IV Receiver Hitch)

Maximum Tongue Weight - 1,275 lbs. (Class IV Receiver Hitch)

NOTE:

- Maximum trailer weight includes cargo and fluids in the trailer and must be decreased by the weight of optional equipment, upfit body modifications, trailer hitch, cargo inside/outside the vehicle and passengers.

- If the gross trailer weight is 5,000 lbs or more, it is recommended to use a weight-distributing hitch to ensure stable handling of your vehicle.

- Trailer brakes are recommended for trailers over 1,000 lbs and required for trailers in excess of 2,000 lbs.

- The GVWR, Payload, GAWRs, GCWR, Maximum Trailer Weight and Maximum Tongue Weight should never be exceeded.

- Values determined using base model vehicle and SAE J2807 standards.

- The payload and maximum trailer weights provided in the Ram Body Builder's Guide and Towing Guide are estimated values. The actual values may be less depending on how the vehicle was equipped (more options add weight to the vehicle which reduces payload and maximum trailer weight).

- Payload - The amount of weight that will be carried by a truck including the driver, passengers, cargo, tongue or king pin weight, options (factory-, dealer-, or customer-installed) and the weight of any upfit body modifications.

Sincerely,
Joe

Can't find the 2020 Ram 1500 towing capacity chart

The only tow charts currently available for 2020 all indicate the tradesman model like you described. Even their reply in the email they say the specs are based off the tradesman. Other years they broke down the specs for each model, not 2020 though. Attached are the door sticker pics off the 2020 Bighorn, 1500, cc, 5.7” box, 3.92, 4x4.Click image for larger version

Thanks for the quick replies. Until SWMBO wants a bigger camper, we will be well within the payload rating with our current trailer tongue weight plus passengers, WDH, and cargo.

Payload capacity varies by how each Model is equipped. That's why you have to look at the driver's door sticker, not on some towing guide. All a guide can do is post a range of payloads or average payload capacity.

I can’t believe no one looked at the door jam and this post was needed

There is no door jamb for me to look at because at this point I am looking online at the available inventory at CarMax, dealers, etc.

https://www.ramtrucks.com/towing/towing-guide.html

If you know the VIN # you can also try looking it up using the above link. However, for whatever reason 2020 1500s weren’t working with it. Just tried it using my 2021 vin# on my 2500 and the results match my door jab stickers.

I had been using that link for towing info, but I, too, found out it doesn't work for 2020 vin's. The page just sits there after you click Look Up and never throws an error message.

Then you'll never get the accurate payload capacity unless they are willing to send you a pic of the sticker.
That's why I shop in person, when I'm looking for a tow vehicle. I feel it's too important not to know what it's rated for.
If it wasn't a tow vehicle, then it wouldn't matter.

I will see the vehicle (before I buy it) when carmax gets it in from the location where it was for sale. I was just wanting to get a jump on the info.

Don't go by a chart found online. All trucks have a payload decal inside the drivers door frame. All trucks are different. Never assume anything. Look at any truck you find before you fall in love with the wheels or color, or,,,

Yep. When I was shopping for my F150 I told them I needed over 2300lbs and I needed proof, as the truck was 200 km away. They sent me a picture of the yellow sticker on the truck I was looking at.
