CAT Scale Weigh My Truck App

I just weighed the fifth wheel the other day and got to use the CAT Scale Weigh My Truck app for the first time.

This thing was awesome. Before getting to the scale, I set it up with a credit card and details on the company, truck, and trailer (private, truck #1, trailer #1).

I opened the app while I was fueling up so that it was ready to go.

I headed over to the scale and it had automatically detected where we were. All I had to was click a button to "accept" that I wanted weighed. It asked me to enter/confirm my truck info (pre-filled in from the prior setup). And that was it- it contacted the weighmaster, took payment, and quickly showed me my 3 weights (steer axle, drive axle, and trailer axles).

I drove back to a truck spot and parked the camper (lucked into pulling through 2 spots!). I dropped the camper there.

I went back around for another weighing of the truck only. The app recognized that I had previously weighed and this time asked me if I wanted a new initial weigh (I assume for real truckers who swap trailers) or a re-weigh. I picked re-weigh and it contacted the weighmaster, took payment, and quickly showed me my 2 weights (steer axle, drive axle).

I went back out and grabbed the camper. Since it was so easy, I decided to get split axle weights on the camper. I had my wife jump out and guide me so that my axles were splitting scales. I weighed once and quickly weighed a second time. Each time, the app spit out numbers.

For every set of numbers it showed, I took screenshots. But it also printed a real paper slip inside that I grabbed when I went in to hit the rest room. It ALSO emailed me PDF copies of the weigh slips.

I won't lie. I'm kind of in love.

Do you still have to buzz the intercom, or does the app handle all communication with the weigh master?

I believe it's any truck stop that has a "CAT Scale"-brand scales. The app didn't mention any specific one and I know the CAT Scale Locator shows different truck stop brands.

No, you don't buzz the intercom. The app handles all communication with the weighmaster.

I didn't get out of the driver's seat for any of the 4 weighings I did.

What company did you use? Doug's Flying Circus?

Is a company name required?

That will work well for me! (I am severely hard-of-hearing.)

Well, now you've done it! I've been wanting to weigh the new rig and now I have no excuse. Can't even blame laziness or feign hate trying to reach the call button.

I know right? Now how am I supposed to justify not going to a set of scales?

I’d suggest getting the setup out of the way now. When you’re ready to use it, you literally launch the app while you’re at the truck stop and/or on the scale.

Super easy. Definite 2 thumbs up for being as simple as it should be. Most developers overthink apps and this is perfect.

Yeah after reading some of the reviews figured it best to get it setup, super easy to do.

I'm sure this varies from place to place, but what does it cost to get the initial 3 weights you took? As you can guess, I've never gone to the scales - just used a bathroom scale/board to get my tongue weight...

Cat scale cost

Per Cat scale web site ---- A first weigh is $11.50 and a qualifying reweigh is $2.

Have a good one
