Cat weight....means ????

On way home from first outing, weighed at a CAT scale. Only had time to weigh the whole thing. Trailer has the most it will EVER have.....DW packed our house into this thing for this trip.

Sheet shows:

Steer axle: 5140
Drive Axle: 7760
Gross wt: 25,180

Air bags I installed made a world of difference but still bouncy on bumpy roads. They were at 90 when I weighed, if that matters.

Trailer is a bit over 13K dry and has 3200 (??) or so capacity on sticker. Truck has 4700 cargo capacity on sticker.

Put that in mixmaster, and so what do I know now??? LOL

You won't know much from that. you need to get the truck weighed separately. You need the truck front axle on scale pad 1, rear axle on scale pad two. Then weigh with the trailer attached to truck. Truck front axle on scale pad 1, rear axle on scale oad 2 and trailer axles on scale pad 3.

Take the truck gvwr minus the truck only scaled weight to get available payload. Take the truck gcwr minus the truck only scaled weight to get adjusted towing capacity. Take the truck rear gawr minus the truck only rear axle to see how much room you have on your axle for pin weight.

Take the total combined ticket minus the truck only ticket to get total fiver weight. Add together the loaded truck axles and then subtract the weight of the unhooked truck to get your pin weight. Is your loaded rear axle weight less than your gawr? Is your loaded truck weight less than your gvwr? Is your combined truck and trailer weight less than your gcwr? This is what the tickets will tell you. Hope that helped.

Well.....

This is at a truck stop where working truckers are looking down their nose at me for pulling up in a rig they'll never afford, on a day they're working and I'm not.....and a big truck is behind me waiting on the scale....
Getting more than that is problematic.

Front axle was on front scale, and all that, etc.

Payload is on sticker. Truck weight dry is given. I'll have to guess actual cargo.

This is the absolute most the trailer will ever weigh.....stuff is coming out I guarantee!! Lol

What we do is pass through hooked. Go park. Temporarily drop the trailer. Go weigh again and then hook back up and go home.

Did you use 3 scale pads? If so then you will get steer axle, drive axle, trailer axle, gross weight.

I did use all three. But that's what they handed me as listed above.

Just no time today. Plus no room for all that where we were. Just decided to weigh when we stopped to get fuel.

I was the odd sheep in that flock

Take the truck loaded go back and weigh it separately..... right now you do not know too much............guessing what your trailer weighs means nothing and does not help.

Good Luck !!!!!!!!!!

And..the guy that leases our farm has a scale and we can weigh truck alone in next few weeks when we're there.

But why don't I know truck weight from sticker plus best guess of cargo?

Most truckers are great people and as long as you aren't taking an unreasonable amount of time they will not mind......... never unhook the trailer on the scales.

You might be surprised at how much $ many of them make as well............

I can weigh the truck loaded at the rice scales at the farm........

and I can maybe take trailer and weigh it separately there too.

No 'stress' weighing at that location.

I have to believe I was pretty loaded down, but I don't know what to make of the 25K gross weight.

I gotta admit. This makes my eyes gloss over somewhat.............

I will say this as a sidebar. All the discussions about 1/2 tons, 3/4 tons, SRW's, DRW's, etc......went through my head on this trip. You guys can carry on all you want to try and justify pulling a 16K trailer with the truck you currently own, but I am going to go on record and say that I am NOT UNDERTRUCKED! After 2K miles, I cannot imagine pulling that big old 40' behemoth with anything less than I have.....and many times I was wishing for a Freightliner!

And that's my opinion!!! LOL

"Truck and Trailer" as shown in that list is exactly what I did........

Got four weights:
Steer: 5,140
Drive: 7,760
Trailer axle: 12,280
Gross Weight: 25,180

Not sure I listed all that above. Sorry!!! LONG day! 8+ hour drive on this thing all day.

I don't understand trailer axle weight. Is that what my trailer weighs? Can't be!!! It's listed as 13K dry!

Total weight less trucks weight would be the weight of the trailer.

Dry weight is empty leaving the factory with no dealer added options or any thing propane etc.

Some truckers make good money, I know someone that drives for Walmart and he makes more that a $100,000.00 a year. Now I know some drivers that make a lot less

Yes it's a 'best guess' but truck weighs 7800 dry or so........so I'm guessing around 9K loaded. That leaves 16K for trailer (yes, these are not firm, I get that), which is upper limit (but not exceeding) of trailer. Trailer will weigh less next time! I promise. Truck will never weigh more, it was loaded too.

Tires stayed at 115 psi...........brakes showed no more than 130 degrees even coming down Chatanooga hills.........with laser therm. meter. Only time transmission temp went to 180 was sitting in 92 degree heat waiting to weigh it. Water temp at 210 all day.

Trailer axle weight on the scale is what is on the axles and does not include the trailer weight the truck is carrying. Fifth wheels can carry 20% +/- of the trailer weight on the pin (at the rear axle of the truck.
