Chevrolet Trailer Plug

I'm I the only one who thinks trailer plugs on late model Chevy pickups are up side down? If rotated 180 degrees, gravity and the cover latch apply pressure to keep the plug in tightly.

Has anyone tried to rotate this assembly?

I have never tried rotating mine but you are definitely not the only one that thinks they are upside down.

I noticed, but the cover "clicks" into place on the plug firmly enough that I don't worry about it.

I think they probably do that so you can see it better and it is easier to plug into. But it would seem to be upside down. I have seen people put the grounds on the top of the plugs in a house also, I think so it makes contact first when plugging in if the plug is at any angle.

The spring and the lock tab on the plug cover do just fine that way, flipping it over won't make it work any better.

Flip it over and then the text on the covers will be upside down, right now they're right-side up...so...GM says it's not upside down.

Actually it would make it better. Mainly because of the variation of the diameter of the plug. Mine is a little loose and tends to slope down a bit. If the latch were on the top, as they were for a long time, it would hold the plug level.

However if your plug is tight, top or bottom would not matter.

Flip it and the flat four will be upside down.

My Ram is 180 degrees from the Chevy’s; it would seem the open cover would be a ‘shield’ from rain when plugged in, to me.

I have always had my plugs installed in the bed after market. Had them installed both ways. Works just fine either way and I can't say I prefer one over the other.

I don't have a problem with mine on the rear bumper of my 2015 Chevy 2500HD.

However, the pigtail on my 5'ver was kinda long when I bought it and once while backing it in a tight turn, the pigtail got caught on the hitch receiver (no ball mount in it) and it ripped right out of the junction box on the king pin.

Blew a bunch of fuses in the truck (under the hood) and in the trailer.

Not a fun day!

Now I run a bungee cord between the two bed hooks to keep the pigtail from dropping that low, even though it is now 10-inches shorter than it was.
