My Reese 16k clanged and chucked. Moved to an Andersen Ultimate...problem solved. I would never return to a "regular" 5th wheel hitch regardless of who makes it.

I'll agree with those that say that B&W hitches are quieter. Most have polyurethane bushings which also mask the chucking much like air ride pin boxes. You can usually quiet the chucking by redistributing the weight to add more pin weight. You can do this by moving cargo/water, kingpin placement, or trailer leveling.

We have the sidewinder w/air ride pin box and an 15k Reese hitch. Yes, it clangs and pops when braking or taking off from a stop. But it is just noise. Our rig is 1" front high, the kingpin sits 2" in front of the axle, and the only time we get any chucking is when we have a full load of water which is in the very REAR of the rig (nice engineering ), and takes weight off the kingpin.

If your hitch is sloppy enough to cause chucking, you have bigger problems

One of these days we'll get a new, fancy hitch, but so far I can always find something else to spend $$$ on

My impression of "Chucking" is not noise but the act of the fiver pulling up on the back of the truck.

Edit: ETrailer.com calls it "unwanted fore and aft movement of the trailer".

FYI Pulling the same trailer same BD3 hitch with my tundra, I had little to no chucking. Tundra had air bags to reduce the squat, Tundra and RV rode level. Over a year ago I bought a 2014 Ram 2500 cummins diesel. The RV rode 4+" nose high, had chucking like you wouldn't believe. Bought a kit from Dexter to raise the RV 2-5/8". The truck and RV ride almost dead level, we are back to almost no chucking. A level RV is allot easier on torsion axels and tires also. Expansion joints on bridges and concrete highways do cause chucking. Sometimes an adjustment in speed can reduce the chucking quite allot where there are expansion joints.

This is what I've always thought. Chucking is the forward / Backward slop in the pin / hitch. Bucking is up / down slop, just like bobtailing a semi-truck.

I agree with Clicker. Using Andersen Ultimate hitch. No chucking at all . Nice quiet ride.

The Andersen is the only hitch I've ever used, and I've never experienced this chucking people are describing. How bad/annoying is it?

I had the same experience when we pulled our new 5th wheel home from dealer. I also have the 16 k reese hitch with revolution on 5er. After problems with connecting and disconnecting I started reading my hitch manual. I adjusted my wedge and installed it according to directions. The dealer had it in backwards and upside down, That did help somewhat with the chucking. Then after reading about the china bomb tires I replaced them with carisle 10 ply hd tires. I think that made the biggest difference on the chucking. I think the original tires were so spongy that they made the camper roll and bounce and chuck around. Some may disagree but I feel it really helped. My wife even commented on the difference!

B&W 5th wheel

If you use the Revolution pinbox you can use the wedge with a Reese and compatable 5th wheels, if you go to a B&W 5th wheel you will have to custom order a wedge. That is what I am currently using now, got my wedge from etrailer.com.

Unless your 5r is an ultra light, pin weight appears light. My 5r empty/sticker before loading is 8,500, pin 1,500, 17.6% of total weight and tows great - no chucking(?). Might want to have trailer tracking checked. NMWildcat might have something looking at the pin location too. Too bad your dealer and Rockwood can't be just a little more concerned.

What Etrailer.com calls it is what I've always been told chucking is. Bucking is the unwanted up and down movement of the tow vehicle caused by weak suspension, expansion crack irregularities in concrete roads or too much vertical play in the fifth wheel jaws or pins. Dad was a mechanic in the Army and worked on semi trucks for several years after.

I agree, am I missing the point y'all are trying to make?

Can someone post a pic of the wedge for me? Not sure which component is being referenced. TIA

Somewhere, I must have.

Chucking, bucking, porpoising, clanking, banging... I've seen every term used in this thread. I'm not sure anymore what is even being discussed.

I don't know what Chucking is, but I am glad I don't have it.
