considering 2304KS with Jeep GC as TV

Hello Forum! I'm very close to getting my first TT and seriously considering the Rockwood 2304KS. Had a couple newbie questions before I make a decision.

I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee with max tow rating of 6500 lbs. From all my research that seems like it should be fine for the 2304ks with a GVWR of 5023 lbs. Sound right?

It seems like the 5000 lbs GVWR with a tongue weight of 623 puts me into a class 4 hitch. Again, do I have that right?

Sorry if I'm asking the same questions that many have asked before. Just want to make sure I understood things. Thanks in advance for any help.

IMHO I would say you will defiately need a good WDH to compensate for the tongue weight capacity of your jeep (you did not say what the rating is but I bet its not over 500lbs). You will have to be careful how much weight you load in your trailer because 868 lbs. of cargo is not very much. You also need to consider the gross combined vehicle rating of your jeep and trailer. You may already know this but you should never count on the advice of a TT salesperson on towing matters. Enjoy your camping.

Most TT that give unloaded weight do not count in the weight of filled propane bottles or a battery on the hitch. Also adding fresh water is not figured in. Later RJD

Thank you both. Good advice. The max tongue weight on my Jeep is 620 lbs so it seems I'm pushing the limit. Does a good WDH give leeway on tongue weight or should I just go by the book so to speak?

A WDH will double the tongue weight capacity. I use an equalizer hitch that works very well for me. They are at

With a good weight distribution hitch and good management of how much weight you are loading in there, you should be fine, but make sure you take the overdrive off when pulling. Ideally, you would not want to exceed 75% of your rating capacity
