Different hitch than what MSRP lists?
I just took delivery of a '15 Phoenix Shasta 28BH and the MSRP invoice for this VIN listed a Reese Revolution hitch as part of a factory-installed option package. Since I have a short-bed F250, it is one of the things that attracted me to this particular unit. After getting to the dealership, I found the unit didn't have a Reese Revolution but instead a TrailAir Rota-Flex. When I questioned the dealer, he informed me that he had no idea why the difference, assumed that it had been ordered that way for some reason, and referred me to the service department to order the right 5th wheel to be installed in my truck bed. So, now I have a Reese Pro Series 20K 5th Wheel in my bed and I purchased the trailer despite it not having the Revolution. My question is this: is it "common" to have an option listed on the MSRP invoice that is not actually installed on the unit? Is this considered a "down-grade" for me to not have the Reese Revolution compared to the TrailAir Rota-Flex? I have towed the unit once with no issues to report, so mechanically, I am very pleased with my purchase and overall the experience of going from a bumper-pull to a 5er is tremendous. Just don't to feel like I paid for something that I didn't get.. Any insight is appreciated.

This might not be the most accurate answer but I do believe that the fine print allows FR to reserve the right to make modifications without notice. This might just be one of those instances where the factory put a different hitch on the unit. Sorry if this is true and hopefully your dealer can swap it out for you. I would think they would since the trailer does not work with your set up.
Good luck,
Vin.

Vin,
I assumed there would be a "fine print" answer. But actually, the TrailAir seemed to work fine with my truck despite being a short-bed. I had no problem with clearance or turning radius this past weekend camping trip and we like the trailer a lot. No complaints with it, except there aren't enough electrical outlets for our taste, but that's minor..

Coincidentally, I was reading fine print just a few moments ago and FR does completely reserve the right to use alternate parts as well as make design changes with no notice to you. Take a look for yourself. I don't know if the units are functionally equivalent because I'm not familiar with the TrailAir, but that's really all they need to stand on their fine print - functional equivalence. Moreover, and more importantly, you are happy with it and enjoying it! I hope you have many great adventures in it! As for the outlets, I agree and will add that I cannot stand the way they lay out circuits at FR. It's something I've seen other manufacturers actually put much better thought behind!

I understand Forest River's option to use alternate parts from those listed in their literature. But, if the MSRP of that particular trailer lists the Reese Revolution, then that is what should be on the trailer. Just speculating, but it could have come on the trailer and the dealer needed it for another application, and switched pin boxes. Not acceptable in my book.
Now, if the Trail-Air was listed on the MSRP sheet, then that is a different story.

I agree with MtnGuy- to me, it's worthwhile reaching out to the manufacturer for clarification.

I am with the above. MSRP shows a Revolution, you should get a Revolution. If the rotoflex was even the same kind of hitch, I would say that Forest River may have made a substitution, but they are not. Ask them to make it right, or escalate it to Forest River.

Sounds to me like some confusion here. So let's see if I get this right, The dealer tried to make it right by you when he installed the Reese Pro Series 20K, you didn't get the revolution but didn't have to settle for the Rota-Flex either. How much difference is there between the Reese Pro and the revolution? Did you get a MSRP sticker with your TT and if so does it say revolution on it?

If the OP has a rotoflex, the 250 short box is 6.5 ft so it most likely will work fine. If it was like mine with a 5.5 ft box I require the revolution. The rotoflex will probably provide a better towing experience. Compensation for the change should be made for a price difference if there is.

Batts-toy, I don't think I was clear. I went to take delivery without a 5er hitch in my F-250. The Shasta MSRP listed a Revolution, but the TrailAir Rota-Flex was installed. I thought I'd need the Revolution regardless of which hitch I ended up getting installed in my bed. So, the dealer didn't know why it was a different pin-box, but said it wouldn't matter for my short bed F-250 (it was long enough for this trailer). Sent me to service to get a 5-er installed. Now, it turns out the Rota-Flex has worked great on 4 trips since my OP. No worries with turning radius or clearance. Guess it didn't matter in the end. Have a feeling that dealer may have pulled a switch-er-oo with TrailAir for Revolution but not sure it makes any difference.
