"just under 5 tons" - actual weights? or GVWR? Maryland's rules are for GVWR, not for actual weights. It was one of the things that I asked - because in my truck and with the family, we come in around 9,000 lbs.

They do really check. When we came through, he put a traffic cone behind the camper, wheel chocks in front of and behind the wheels, had my wife put it in park, and then scooted around underneath on a creeper. Once he was satisfied, he undid everything and gave us a clean bill of health.

I'd have to stop with just me in the truck as I am sitting... GVWR is 11k.

Do I have to pull into Weigh Scales
Manitoba states:
With my truck and trailer both over 10k.
I must have class 3 license.
My truck has to be inspected yearly.
I must enter weigh scales.
I can be fined, for being over gvwr of truck or trailer.
Amount of fine, depends on how much over. Goes by the KG.
This is what I have been told by both the Rcmp and the Manitoba highways dot.
I will note: I have not had a chance to drive by a scale yet. Just none on my normal campground route.
I have no idea what they will do, if I actually pulled in.

I pulled into one once when we first started RVing and was told to get the hell out. Haven't pulled in since.

No .......To RVs on Government weigh scales.
No requirement to stop at a weigh scale with an RV. VERY occasionally they will do a special campaign for safety check, legal weights. I've seen it once here in BC in 10 years.

Not in most states, you need to learn to READ the signs as like Florida/California will make you pull into the scales (there are signs stating such) and for the most part it is a pass through and not looking for weight, BUT there is a some noise from states that are looking into the choice of making it mandatory, and if that happens it might change, but only time will tell when and what this really means.
So like all state laws you as the driver are FULLY responsible to know and or read the signs on the roadway to know if you are to do or not do something.
Oh let me just say a large number of folks think there is no state that require a CDL for using or driving a rv, while it is true you will NOT need a cdl to drive and rv but some states do have you get and pass a additional driving test for driving an rv, like Pennsylvania, California, New York is working on a new law and many others. So change is on the way as rving becomes more and more popular, so just be warned!

Have a noncommercial cdl or ncdl in PA.
As soon as they can find a way to tax it they will make the changes.

DOT will have to come get me, I have no plans to stop. When I drove a commercial vehicle I dodged all the scales anyway and I ran two log books
