Do I need a WDH and sway control?

This may sound stupid. I'm picking up my 21fbrs the first of next month. I will be pulling 1500 miles south. I have a 2011 silverado with a tow package. Question is do I need a WDH and a sway control? Had MH for 20 yrs. Don't know mutch about towing. 1500 lt 3.73 gear 4.8 v8

Since your combination is a "done deal," I think you will be happier and safer with a good quality weight distribution hitch with 4 point sway control.

I like the Equalizer brand hitches.

Get a WDH, you'll enjoy it.
I use a Reese WDH with the Dual Cam setup.

X2 on the Reese setup. Mine worked flawlessly once setup properly. I like it because by design, it's always working to prevent sway vs. reacting to sway. Just my $.02, good luck with whatever you choose, but I'd definitely have wd and sway control.

Yes go with it. it is safer.we use it If you do any interstate driving you will see the diff. I have a 2012 model of what you are buying And we like it.

It wasn't clear if you were asking if you need a WDH at all or just a WDH with or without sway control. As for whether or not you need a WDH, take a look at the truck manual or the sticker near the receiver. It will list the weight allowed for "Weight Carrying" and "Weight Distributing". Your trailer has a GVWR of 4,700lbs so, depending on how much you load, your tongue weight may be close to 550-650lbs. Some receivers only go up to 500 or 600 lbs for weight carrying. Meaning, you would need a WDH.

I also recommend an integrated system like the Equal-i-zer. You can get away with a WDH with a sway bar but its kind of a hassle.

there's no way i'd tow a full-height TT that far, with a 1/2 ton truck, without a good WDH with sway control.

i love my Equal-i-zer but the Reese Dual-Cam is also well loved.

did you already get a brake controller?

I need to get back to TX, which is 1500 mi before i install it. Do you think it will be safe enough.

This is not a good plan IMHO. Get the hitch installed at the time of pick-up. It only takes a couple of hours to install and you'll be very thankful on that 1500 mile drive home.

I was trying to save alittle money. A friend is bringing his hitch the end of March. I'm picking tt first week of March. It's clear what I need to do. Again thanks everyone for the input.

Good call ! The only time I tow my trailer with the equalizer bars in place is from storage to my home or back which is around 6 miles, and I feel the difference. I also do not put them on when I take the trailer to my local dealer, which is 4 miles. And that is the extend of it, all small country roads. Anything more and it is the whole setup.

I'm sure that the folks who have been towing understand. I was asking some off the people that hang with. Not sure if they know. If i don't know, i like to get as much input as possible.
