Dodge Dakota and Towing

where looking for a replacement tv and daily driver

looking at various 3-5 yr old dakotas, 4 door, 2wd or 4, v6 vs v8 etc etc

we tow a 21 ft dry weight 2400 lbs, tandem axle, so probably 3000 lbs, right now our tv is a ford windstar which is very capable

opinions?

If Dakota, get the V8. It will serve you much better. If a Windstar can pull it no problem, a properly equipped Dakota should be even better. I would do the 4 door as well for more cabin space. Can never have too much of that...

I had the 4 door dakota v8 4x4 with towing ..plenty plenty of power pulled the pop fine but with the TT being wider than the truck it was ALL OVER the road and as much as I like the pwoer in the smaller truck I had to trade it for a full sized... hope this helps as its just my 2 cents

We have a 08 Dakota with the 3.92 towing gears towing rated at 7000lbs. The most common gears in the Dakotas are 3.55's and are rated at 5000 lbs towing with the 4.7 v-8 motor.

a full sized truck is an option, even just a properly equipped ford 150 or equivalent, but the're so ****** big, we ferry elderly parents around a lot and a full size is way too high

a ranger is too small inside, the dakota looks like a nice compromise all around especially the 4 door

the trailer is an easy tow even with the windstar, we tow about 6000 km every summer and the vehicle would also be a daily driver

its too bad they dont make medium sized passenger vans with truck frames and running gear like slightly heavier versions of the old aerostar and gm astro
