My nephew is a Ford mechanic in Tyler. His comments were ,lane assist is an all electric unit, totally in the steering column and can be an expensive repair out of warranty. He said especially, if looking at the Lariat trim and up, a lot of wiring crammed into the space in layers.
I have to take mine in tomorrow for rear camera failure-"Ghosts Out" at night. The first camera totally failed, this one just has a white screen at night. I will have them show me how to adjust the BLIS settings.

Chevy/GM didn't put adaptive cruise control on their pickup trucks until 2019. Tahoe and Suburban got it before that for some reason. It was one of the reasons I didn't buy a GM truck and chose the F-150 instead.


My 2018 F-150 can't be set lower than 25MPH but it will slow to below that speed without kicking out if traffic slows. If traffic comes to a stop, the truck comes to a complete stop by itself and then you just hit the resume once traffic starts moving.


I have the lane departure system but never use it. It only vibrates the steering wheel if you drift without using your turn signals.

I have a 2018 Lariat and BSW works with a trailer attached. The only thing that is turned off is cross traffic warning while backing which of course you wouldn't use with a trailer.

Adaptive cruise control was not available until the 2020 model year for the Silverado/Sierra 1500. It still is not available on the HD trucks.

OK, let me try this summary: For 150/1500 pickups with BSW/BLIS that works WITH travel trailers, we have Ford starting in 2018, Chevy/GMC in 2019, and (maybe) Ram in 2020. If I am looking for a 2018 Ford F-150 and/or a 2019 Chevy/GMC, AND an engine power equivalent of my 5.7 RAM Hemi and a GCWR of 14,000 or better, what packages on both lines do I need to look for?

Ford 3.5 ecoboost has more HP and torque than your 5.7 RAM and at lower RPMs..

Yes...you are correct about the 1/2T trucks. Not sure about 3/4Ts.


Was kind of amazing to me since I worked on adaptive cruise control back a few years for GM and we were working with other auto makers on it. Imagine my surprise when I went to order a GM truck with my GM discount back in 2018 and couldn't get it.

Great news. While I love my Ram; it took us from Florida to California, the Pacific northwest and back twice, Michigan four times, without any problems, I just want a truck that will pull my trailer with BSW without essentially having a mortgage size payment. Could you tell me what your GCWR is; that tells me what the limit is when everything is hooked up and loaded up. Also, perhaps, mileage, too?

I don't have a picture of its sticker with me. Payload is just under 1700# DOn't have the other specs until I take a picture of the sticker. I can do that next week when I get back home.




You already know this but all options reduce the payload and add to the truck weight. For example, I have the factory spray in bedliner. It likely reduces the payload over 50#. One reason, among others, that I didn't get the sunroof is that it reduces payload by 100#.

If you get a F-150, take a look at the following thread that supports Forscan. This is a program that runs on a Windows PC and connects to a truck via the OBD connector. With it you can modify a number of settings controlling the truck: Bambi mode lights - high beams and fog lights at the same time, disable various warnings - honk if you leave truck with engine running, can modify type of headlights, control daytime running lights, enable numeric display of engine and trans temps, etc, etc...

I'll dive into this; but at first click, it appears pretty complex. If you could just tell me what your GCWR is on your truck, it would be a nice starting point. I quickly get lost in the weeds when I start trying to get the GCWR on various combinations, and the used truck market mostly just list packages. It is hard to get the tech data one needs to know if that truck is what one is looking for.

Out of curiosity, what is the tongue weight of the trailer you are pulling and what is its total weight?

As far as I know, GCWR is NOT individual truck specific. GCWR is NOT printed on my door stickers. GCWR is relatively clearly listed in the appropriate model year tow guides. FWIW, my 2019 SC 145WB with 3.5 EB and 3.55 gearing is 18,200lbs. What WILL be different for each truck is the Cargo Capacity (payload) printed on the yellow door sticker. CC is VERY dependent on trim level and specific added options.

My tongue weight with filled LP tanks, hitch, and battery (and empty holding tanks) is approximately 810 lbs. My unloaded/dry weight of the trailer is 6,170 lbs. In actual experience, my loaded trailer is generally about 7,880 lbs. Some of that is from our upgrading the furniture with much heavier/nicer recliners and foldout sofa that really makes a nice double bed (as opposed to the inexpensive jackknife that was OEM); the rest is our "stuff"! I am running a GCW of 13,400 which is 400 over my Ram's GCWR of 13,000 lbs. Not ideal, but so far we have not had any problems. Like I said before: Florida to California and/or Pacific northwest 2x and Michigan 4x. Still going strong. However, I am the guy doing 55 mph in the slow lane some of you have passed, I am sure.

Blind spot warning does not work with a trailer on the 2019 Silverado/Sierra 1500. When you plug in the 7 pin, you get messages in the DIC indicating that blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert are disabled.
