So, is there actually any difference in the 10k and the 11.5k GVWR 2500? Or do we just get to FEEL like we’ve got a safer rig when buying it? 350SRW Fords are available in a 10k GVWR package, or at least used to be. Only diff was the sticker- and of course the registration and insurance costs in some locations.

For year 2020 Chevy HD trucks in 2500 trim have these GVWR's (and maybe some I missed?): 9900/10000/10050/10150/10200/10250/10350/10400/10450/10550/10650/10750/10850/10900/11025/11050/11200/11350/11550
I don't know if there is any difference mechanically to account for lower gvwr between any of the 2500 series anymore except for wheel size which could have an affect. I can say that I looked at a couple 2500 gas powered trucks and they had the same axle housing as anything else I saw in the 2500 series...This was not always the case in years past. I suspect some of these GVWR's are to give comparable payload numbers between diesel and gas trucks of the same chassis but I don't know for sure. If you build the exact same truck with the only difference being the motor/transmission...the diesel will allow a higher gvwr selection by about 700lbs in the configuration I checked out.
And if you select a lower gvwr it does not affect price.

Surprisingly, no one mentions filling the tires with helium. You could get more payload capacity with hydrogen but then you would have more to worry about than just your trailer tires blowing up.

If you buy a Ford, make sure you get the heated tailgate option. It helps a lot when you are pushing in the winter.

Another way to increase your payload is to DE-BADGE the truck 99% of the people can not tell the difference between a 3/4 ton or a 1 ton SRW truck. They look the same only the badges tell you.

Okay, since we are cussing and discussing vehicles and "who has the biggest one"
I have owned several Mercuries, an Olds, an International, 2 Chevys, A Dodge, a Ram and probably a couple I do not remember. When you get this old the Blue Oval or BowTie means nothing.
One thing I never owned is a 4 or 6 cylinder. Always a V8 with either rear wheel drive or four wheel drive. And never a rice burner. That is my claim to fame
I love the smell of Rice in the morning!
