Ecoboost

Picked up our camper yesterday for first tow with my new Ecoboost. Was very pleased with power of the truck. Came up Linville mountain in 4th gear. Holds back great on descent. Couldn't be more pleased.

Engine and Trans gauge didn't move at all. Now I feel much more confident towing.

Did you engage the tow mode? I love that option towing the 5ver. The tow mode walks you through the hookup to checking lights etc. Lovely tool ford made.

Over 10 K miles towing with my 2012 Ecobeast. The truck still blows me away in terms of how capable of a towing platform it is.

Turbs I have driven all 3 Detroit players in both gasser and oil burner. I'd LOVE a dually oil burner but I have zero need for it right now. When I do, I'll happily buy one and then drop into threads like just to stir the pot... (well it would NEVER be a duramax since I'd not take one if it was given to me, it'll be a Ford). How's that for more pot stirring.

When I was in A&P school, I had to tear down a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine (used in P-51s and many British WWII fighters) and tell the instructor why it wasn't airworthy. Those engines had a lot of innovations especially for their day. I am always interested and amazed at the engine technologies of today. That being said, the Merlin had a designed service life of 300 hours... they were used in battle, after all. I am still wondering how the Ecoboost will last over the long haul.

I used to be a Ford-only guy... The torque and longevity of what I have now changed all that. Enjoy your new truck... and since GM screwed me royally once, they'll not EVER get another chance.

Truck is the 2014 Ecoboost with tow package, NOT Maxtow. Pulling Flagstaff 27RLWS. Outside temp was only 55. Trailer weights about 7500.

I love my EB and feel it tows my trailer just fine. I'm new to towing so my setup is my first, but I'm completely comfortable with it. If we go bigger, I may be changing my tune, but I doubt it'll be anytime soon!

My Transmission is 92 C in the winter and 92 C towing when it is 25 C outside. If I go up a steep grade it might climb to 96 C then back down again.

after all the trouble, and continuing trouble, with the DEF systems in our road trucks I wouldn't buy anything with that crap on it.

P-51D sported the Packard Merlin - built under license in Motor City. Sorry, couldn't resist...

I believe this one was one of those as I remember... That was 46 years ago. I've always referred to these engines as RR because they developed it.

I'm hoping someday Ford will put an Ecoboost engine in 250 or 350 for the payload. The 2015 payload numbers are impressive in the 150 though. I'm all in if they start offering the EB in their heavier trucks.
