Equalizer Hitch Surprise

In hitching up today, one of the sway bar receptacles on the hitch seemed to move somewhat freely, so I got out my sockets and box wrenches to snug things up. The nut and a small piece of the bolt fell off. The bolt was still threaded through the nut. I went to Ace Hardware and bought a Grade 5 4.5Ē x 5/8 bolt plus nut.

Am writing to Progressive Mfg to report the issue and try to get replacement bolts and nuts in the proper grade if Grade 5 is substandard.

Glad it did not happen when towing.

IMHO, my gut feeling is grade 5 is likely to soft.

Yiu are right. I went to the Equalizer Parts diagram. The bolt is Grade 8

There is a torque specification for the socket bolts on the Equalizer hitch if you look in the manual. If you donít have the owners and setup manuals you can get them on the equalizer website.
