The story is that according to an insurance industry funded lobby group the F-250 has the highest cost per claim record of any vehicle. This fact (which is true) was somehow turned into the claim it was the most stolen vehicle (which is not true.)

If you actually got to look at the insurance industry numbers you would see the claims include not just vehicle loss, but all comprehensive coverage claims which include theft of items inside the truck. As the F-250 is the most often used vehicle by contractors , and they keep their tools in them, you see where the number comes from.

Interesting aside, Ford trucks usually carry a slightly higher insurance cost code because of this.
