F-250 or F-350

A while back I posted proof from a Ford document that in my 2016 model year the F350 has a different (i.e. stronger) rear axle than my F250. I don’t have any idea what the current generation Super Dutys have for axles but I’m sure someone can come up with that info.

For the OP, check your local DMV and insurance company to see if they treat the F350 differently than the F250 so you’ll know if that’s a consideration. Other than that, a F250 gasser would be more than enough for your current TT or a 5er up to 35’. My 5er is around 11,000# and it pulls it fine but I don’t tow in mountains and it can rev high at times. If you are thinking about a diesel, then go straight to the F350.

I can’t argue that statement , I also had a 2016 SWD F 350 and when my boss was comparing his 250 same power stroke, fx4 package and same 3:55 rearend near impossible to see any difference

If you need a pickup truck a F150 Supercrew (assuming you need the seats) EcoBoost can be factory equipped to tow at least 11,200. And no embarrassment in driving a diesel or Dodge.

Although I am with you on expanding option beyond trucks, I gotta say there is absolutely no embarrassment with a Diesel. I get great gas mileage AND torque from my King SUV I've basically a F250 with more room for family. Not important to all, but I have a tall family of 4 and dog!

I personally am going straight to the 350 for my next rig. However that is to pull a 5er. As others have mentioned, check your state's regs and insurance. For me here in Cali, I already know the hit to the pocket it will be annually as my brother-in-law has a 350.

I figure I will factor that into the equation and will also let me know when the time is right if I can swing that along with everything else part of the upg.

I hope you are able to make the best choice for you presently and future in mind as well. Good Luck, don't think you can make a "bad" choice given the options

I have had a 1/2 , a 3/4 and now a F350 6.7 diesel. The F350 drive better and rides better than the other two, love this truck.

My next truck will be a F 450 DRW 8 ft bed , the province of Ontario changed the rules on Class 3 and Class 4 trucks used for personal transportation. No annual inspection required now. No need for log book either.

F 450 has tighter turning radius.

My Landmark is 18,000 lbs gross and I have it loaded to 16,000 lbs now to be within truck capacity.

Allway's go bigger because you mignt upgrade to a bigger RV in the future....look up 6.2 problems on the net.....the 6.4 is a much better motor ,i hear lot's of good things about it at the campground's...

Thanks! My 2016 F250 has the snow plow prep and camper packages which beef up the front and rear suspension respectively, but I still have the F250 axle so its not quite on par with an F350.

Which problems are you referring to?

The 6.2 has been a relatively trouble free, reliable engine.

The blocks on F-250s and F-350s have been the same for several years now. No differences there.

F-250s come standard with a Sterling 10.5" rear axle. So do the gasoline F-350s. F-350 diesels get the Dana M275 axle. F-250 diesels with the HD Tow package step up to the Dana rear axle. Nobody is getting a Dana 60 rear.

DRW step up the M300 rear axle.

All F-350s will get the 6R140 transmission and the gas F-250s get the 6R100. 10 speed transmissions due to hit 2020, though.

For the diesel platform, you can build out an F-250 all the way to an F-350 other than a single leaf. F-350s have a 5 leaf pack and F-250s can only get up to 4.

The F-350 doesn't have any special "tuning" to its suspension that would make it any different from the same components that are found on the F-250.

Anyway, if you want more of this type of info, I highly recommend a Ford forum. Same if you want to know more about GM or Ram/Fiat products.

Why would a truck forum be any different. A portion and possibly a majority of us here probably go to one as well, not to mention respond to threads on them. I would also caution that a portion of those who do respond know only what they read and have been there done that and saw on the internet so must be true.

Because at a truck forum you have a concentrated group of people present for the dedicated purpose of discussing those trucks. Sure, many people here own trucks, but it's a diluted forum.

This particular thread is about Ford trucks and, fairly quickly, we have a conflation of Ford and Fiat engines, poor info on axles, and so on. This isn't as likely to happen at a truck forum. Specifically on the axle question, you'd have had 3 people jump on with actual Ford order guides with detailed info. Here, we had a complete pile of horsecrap that had to be unraveled.

If you have an RV question, go to an RV forum. If you have a sewing question, go to a sewing forum. If you have a offroad motorcycle question, go to advrider. If you have a truck question, go to a truck forum.

Crossover will always exist. Tons of truck drivers own offroad motorcycles, but advrider is going to be better than F150Online for the proper jetting of a KTM 450 EXC carb.
