I really wasn't looking for an opinion or any feedback. I was just stating what I am towing down the road with a 1/2 to truck.

I ordered my truck line item by line item to get the highest payload rating for a Ram 1500. Likewise a bought a 5th wheel with the pin weight that didn't exceed the payload rating. It's right at the limit but not over.

Haha wait, that’s not funny. You bought a 1500 to tow a 5 er with a pin weight at almost max for truck. Now you add contents, you and anybody else, now your over right? But just a country boy living the dream[emoji2357]

Just purchased a 2020 FR Wildwood Xlite 263Bhxl. Dry weight is 5840. Current TV is a 2010 Explorer V8 AWD with a mfg tow spec of 7,300 and tongue weight of 730.
My plans are to use it for the season and upgrade in the fall. I’ve towed it twice since the purchase in November, and surprisingly it towed very well. (Empty) I have a Blue Ox WDH, and Brake controller with helps.
I’m looking at 19’ Expeditions as I do feel I need a 1/2 ton. Wife doesn’t want aF150, and is adamant about having a SUV. F150’s are easy to find .
My 2010 Explorer has more towing capacity then the Expeditions..I’ve been looking at the Expeditions and 99% of them out there are equipped with the 3.31 gears which brings the towing way down.
Unless I order a brand new one at the tune of 65-70g and get the 3.73 gears, I may as well just stick with my current TV
I would keep looking for an Expedition with the towing package. You will reach the payload limit before the towing limit.

go to a scale on Saturday afternoon, hundreds of rigs at scale/ truck stop Mon-Friday, one 18 wheeler on Saturday afternoon. Go to the scale with empty truck, get a "curb weight" look at door jam for GAWR of your truck and PAYLOAD. Same for your trailer, look at sticker for trailer axle rating. Load your truck so you are under payload and go to a scale with truck/trailer, you should now have all the numbers you need.

My truck has an 1820# Payload and the 5th wheel has 1400# pin weight. There is a Cotton Gin just down the road with a scale that is open all the time. Since I work there part time in Cotton season I can unhitch my trailer just off the scale and use a forklift to verify pin weight. And I can also check weights side to side. I moved my generators from the truck bed to the rear bumper of the trailer along with a tote box of heavier tools. This trailer has a rear kitchen with all the appliances just at or behind the axles. We don't carry a lot in the truck cab with us, just cameras and binos.

By balancing out the load I am right at my max weight. I have been to Alaska and back and all over the western states since 2016 without any problems. Upgrades are LT tires, airbags on the truck and better tires on the trailer.

When we first got our trailer, I traded my Escape for a new F-150 and was surprised that my vehicle insurance went DOWN. My AAA Michigan agent explained that trucks are just lower cost to insure. Said I might have had a heart attack when I saw the insurance cost if I had opted for an Explorer or Expedition...

Granted, I have a TT 2/3 the size of yours. Bought sized specifically to be able to tow with my 2008 Explorer V6 w/ tow package 5225# tow rating. Worked but weak towing.
Was a bit shocked when I CAT scaled the rig. I was just under Rear GAWR when the WDH was hooked up. Over GAWR without the WDH. Explorer & TT went on a weight reduction program.
Bought a 2019 F150 SuperCrew V8 towing package short bed last spring. Other than the payment, no regrets. Now I have plenty of cargo capacity and have no concerns hauling a generator and firewood in the truck bed. Being able to throw whatever in the truck bed is a huge bonus.
I had a 1998 Expedition Eddie Bauer 5.4L with towing package, no TT at the time. The 5.0L F150 has more power, just as much room in the front and back seats, noticeably better towing my cargo trailers. Have your wife test ride/drive a short bed 4 door F150. Its the same as an Expedition from the back seat forward although my truck is about 10" longer overall than the old Expedition.

Same with towing. That limit is based on towing the weight, uphill, in 100 degree weather. You always have the choice to slow down, gear down, and safely tow heavy loads. I'd take my grandpa towing his 5th wheel, over the rating, with his old straight 6 f250, at a safe 55 mph, over some modern Yahoo running 75 mph in his diesel towing 19,000 pounds, under his rating, yammering away on his phone.
From the trailer perspective it is indeed a most favorable scenario. To have a trailer that can be very sway stable at 65 mph with 10% tongue weight, all weight added very close to floor level is favorable. Trailers with 15% TW and a higher vertical center of gravity couldn’t come close to meeting the requirements set in the SAE standard without as drastic reduction in rating.
