The one I am considering is configured for much more - 2620#. It’s the extended wheelbase, payload package, etc.

And that's my point... Some will say "you can't tow a fifth wheel with a half ton, even if it's rated for it"
And that's what I don't get

ID rather pull a 8k pound 5th wheel then an 8k tt with a 1/2 ton truck. I don't get the difference. There are people posting thinking they cant tow a 5k mini light with a 1/2 ton.

I pull a 10,990 Max gross fifth wheel with an 05 F-250 Gasser... They say it can't be done... Lol

That is the data I am looking for. If it’s within the rated capacity of the vehicle, I can’t figure out why the concern.

I get it... You want real world knowledge from someone actually pulling with one... I'd like that too because the Ecoboost empty fuel economy is pretty impressive

Depending on the interior packages you order, spray in bed liner, sunroof, running boards...it will be lower than 2620. I looked at many trucks on dealer lots that were supposed to be configured like what you are looking at and they all ended up being many 100s of pounds less.

Just keep that in mind when you order one or buy off the lot.

I have one now. It’s only got about 2200# payload.

On the other hand, I get excellent mileage, and the newer model has the 10 speed transmission and does even better.

Mine has 1000 miles with the 3.5L ecoboost. Last trip of 300 miles, it was getting 23 MPG going 70 MPH according to the computer which I reset when I filled up. Not bad.

I love the 10 speed transmission. Will be interesting to see how it does pulling my 6000# boat up over 7000'.

Mine is a Lariat with leather bucket seats, running boards...My guess is that if you ordered a truck with my options but longer wheel base and the heavy duty payload, you would be at around 2200 payload again.

Capacity Ratings

Agreed, but for my own comfort, I don't try to push beyond 80% of those ratings. I like to leave a little "wiggle room". But exceed those manufacturer/designer ratings- not in my behaviour genes.

Cheers

That surely does seem small for pulling heavy loads.........IMHO.

They put one in the Ford GT that has 647hp and 550 lbs-ft torque.........

The speed limit is 75 in the states. Most of the people who would never tow with anything less than an F350 probably exceed that limit every day.

Out here on the open road I’ve seen lots of guys towing at 80+.

Limits seem to be arbitrary, anymore.

My opinion............They can read the numbers, they KNOW the correct answer.

BUT, they dont want to bear the expense of doing it correctly and want an excuse not to

I can read numbers. If my half-ton truck is rated at 2700# payload and my trailer and cargo weighs less, and I’m within gross vehicle ratings, I don’t understand the problem.

I’ve owned many trucks from a Datsun in the early 70’s to a diesels. Every manner of SuperDuty. 7.3, 6.0, 6.2, an old 460, the Triton, and others.

I’m looking for data, not an excuse. I could buy another SuperDuty. If I don’t need it, why buy it?

I have heard “brakes”. My 2016 F150 has netted brakes than many of my older HD trucks.

Some mention the frame. I have to assume that if the yellow sticker claims 2700# payload the frame can handle it.

What else?

Out of curiosity, have you actually seen one that has a yellow sticker of 2700#?

My model was 2100 according to the brochure. Best I ever saw was 1700 after all options are added.

So why does it matter what the badge on the fender says if the truck was built and rated to haul the weight you're trying to haul???
Not sure I'm following......

The 'yellow sticker' (they aren't all yellow) IS the number/capacity/spec that your truck is rated for.............your specific truck.

???

Yes.

I have a build sheet. The highest available is 3100# in an extended cab with the 5.0V8.

The highest available 3.5 is a SuperCrew 3.5EB 176” 4x4.

What's a build sheet?

The question is "What is the number on the sticker on your specific truck?"

Go to the Ford website and pull the specification pdf file. Most dealers do not order in the highest payload versions. The F150 is just a grocery getter anymore.

I’m looking at ordering a 3.5 176” with a yellow sticker of 2680#. (I rounded up )
