F250 Question
Hi
Looking at a 2011 F250 6.7 diesel to replace our 03 F250 gas truck. The truck has 157k miles on it, 1 owner. It was purchased new at our local small town dealer who has an outstanding reputation and took it back as a trade in.. My question is about the high mileage. What have any of you experienced with a truck with this many miles? What types of things might I look for? Would you recommend passing on it? We pull a 5th wheel and would like the extra power. Thanks

Bought our 06 gmc 3500 with 140k on the clock. No worries as it should be good for a million miles. May need a few thousand in work, but cheaper in the long run.

pay a mechanic to look it over for obvious problems before you buy... then be ready to do all fluids change, radiator, tranny, rear end oil, new brake fluid (old fluid takes up H20 and could cause problems), inspect and maybe replace hoses and belts... check out shocks and muffler system... after that you should be good for another 150,000 miles at least, unless you have a rust belt truck and it is getting eaten away under the skin

We have a '99 F250 that has 165k miles on it - running great. It is a 7.3L but the diesel engine and this transmission are very strong and should run for many, many more miles. We use a small amount of 4 cycle engine oil in the diesel at each fill-up to counteract the low sulfur fuel. just fyi

double check the payload on the door sticker Some 250/2500 diesel trucks have a surprisingly low payload (ie my 09 f250 psd only had a 1500 lb payload). As said above, have a mechanic check it out. Also check out the Ford diesel forums. Some good info there.

Where did this guy drive it, to put so many miles on it. I have a 2004 F-250 with 133,000 miles on it. You will be able to tow a 5th wheel easily make sure it has the HD tow package. I'm getting ready to buy a F-250 year 2007 with 33,000 miles on it. I'll be selling my F-250 soon, all maintenance has been done by Ford and just got it off there computer that shows everything good. Just put new front rotors and brakes and new shocks on it.

you should not run two stroke oil in the 6.0. 6.4 or 6.7 The high-pressure oil pump do not like it . it's fine in The 7.3 it also can restrict the fuel filters on the newer motors and if that happens you're looking at thousands dollars in replacing injectors

150K on a diesel is nothin'! I have the 6.7L in my F-350 and love it! That being said....definitely have a good diesel mechanic look it over before you part with your hard-earned money.

We had a '97 F-350 with the 7.3 PSD many years ago. Not the greatest high-end torque but loved it! We now have a '14 F-350 6.7 PSD. Love it EVEN MORE!
I wouldn't worry about the 6.7. 157K miles is just now getting broken in Best engine Ford has put in their F series trucks. As Rugbyref said; just have it checked by a qualified mechanic.
Pulling power is AWESOME! We have a 16,000 lb 5er and it doesn't even know it is back there. The 6.0 PSD does have some power/pulling issues and the 6.4 PSD has some fuel economy issues... hence Ford developing the 6.7 without their past association with Navistar.

Great truck and great engine, assuming it was taken care of. I just traded in the same truck. I highly recommend you join Ford-trucks.com and explore the 6.7l forum. You will find a wealth of knowledge from some very experienced owners.
