F350 better than F250

Seriously. Everything else is the same. Same axles. Same brakes. Same everything.

Tim
I have an F250 with the camper and plow package.
The camper pkg added an extra leaf in the rear so it’s a 350 with A 250 badge.

Because the stock clutch wont handle the higher torque

F350/F450 DRW = M300 rear axle

So, you're both right. It just depends on which config you're talking about.
What is a HD tow package?

See pic, guess they call it the high capacity tow package. Note “upgraded axle.”

I don’t recall them offering that in 2016. Maybe its only on the 2017 and newer model years?

Not sure, I don’t really keep up on Ford stuff but there was a similar discussion some months ago about this very axle subject so I knew there was some info that some folks didn’t seem to be aware of.

I’m pretty sure that in 2016 both the F-250 and the F-350 SRW had the Sterling 10.5 rear axle.

Ok, but this thread is talking about new trucks.

If you want a heavy duty truck for towing, then if you get the 250, you probably want the upgraded tow package. When you do that, the 350 is around $800 more expensive than the 250. That's not much more. Some of the ratings are purely clerical, but they're still higher ratings than the 250.

If you're not really towing that much, then you should get a 250 without the upgraded tow package and save the $2+ grand.

Nice part about the power stroke is you get 2 cooling systems to maintain. Yes including water pumps. Part of the added weight no doubt. I like to look at the future repairs that are known to come up also.

I think it was a US only package. It wasn’t listed as an option when I bought my 2018.

If you go off Base Prices for the different models of 250 vs 350 then you will find the differences are far less than $2k and the difference is based upon equipment.

When I went to a smaller 5th wheel and no longer needed the dually I thought there was savings to be had by going with a 250...NOT! The F 350 IMO is the best value of the Superduty line, I am on my 5th one so I believe it...

From what I understand, DRW's (available on the F350) give you a bit more stability as well which helps reduce the possiblity of sway.

DRW's are also available on the F-250, but you also have to have the roof mounted clearance lights as they are mandated by FDOT.

On the F-450 and higher there is no SRW option available.

Don't think I've ever seen a DRW F-250. Interesting..

Mine has the 3:73's in it and as soon as I get the money saved those gear sets will be replaced with 3:31's for better fuel mileage. My 2016 350 is a pig (mpg wise), compared to the 2011 250 I traded in on the 350 (both trucks have the 6.7L).

There used to be a after market company called centurion building them but not done by Ford.

For those with 3/4 ton trucks, if you want that fancy 35'+ 5th wheel toy hauler with triple axles will require at least a 1 ton DRW truck due to the pin weight of the 5th wheel toy hauler is greater than a 3/4 ton truck can safely tow.

And if you're going to step up to a 1 ton you might as well get the diesel, because it will pull better than any factory installed gas engine will, and it will live a much longer life. If you take care of it properly there is no reason you can't get at least 1 million miles out of it.

Those were on dealer lots in higher numbers in Texas than here in Georgia or Florida, in fact I haven't seen a centurion conversion on a dealer lot since 1999 when I was attending a school at Lackland AFB in San Antonio.
