F450 or Sport chassis

Looking to replace my F250 with a F450 or Freightliner Sport Chassis, Both will be used and most likely the F-450 will still have Factory, where as the Freightliner will be about 10 yrs old and have about 80K-100K.

Why such a swing because at this point they are the same price.

Does anyone one here run a Sport chassis and what are the Pro's and Con's
This will be the last truck I purchase and when the time comes will be our full timing truck.

The F-450 is a very capable truck. Whatever you're pulling with a F-250 should prove to be a well within the F-450's capabilities. We pull a 18,000#+ Riverstone with a 2018 F-450 and it's great!

Why are you considering a Frieghtliner?

we will be upgrading our 5th wheel next year, to what model we don't know

Best of success hunting for a new truck and trailer. There is some really nice toys available for you to choose!

I'd guess a F-450 can tow virtually any 5th wheel you buy. Safely and comfortably. They can be serviced by any Ford dealer or automotive repair facility, except for the commercial tires and the need for a larger frame machine and alignment rack if/when needed. And although not exactly small, it makes for a manageable daily driver, except for cities.

I have no personal experience with larger trucks. Logic tells me they will be way capable. I'd inquire about the comfort for both passengers and trailer. As for availability and cost of service? I suspect big wallet my be a prerequisite.

Check with your insurance company, bank, and maybe even motor vehicles before buying. Some folks have found themselves forced into commercial status and the associated costs. I'd guess the Frieghtliner will be more of an issue than the F-450. Oh, and for these purposes, a F-450 Super Duty may be less of an issue than a F-450 cab and chassis.

I am looking seriously at the Sport Chassis to replace my F 350. I am looking at a pre emissions model today. It's amazing how many 8 to 10 year old models there are with low mileage. Also making the insurance calls today.

If I could swing a nice used Sport Chassis I would go that way personally just because I want one. You only live once!

Well, it definitely requires a commercial policy. According to my agent, the cutoff for personal coverage is 14,000 gvwr, and the Sport Chassis is right at 20,000. Looks to be $12-1500 per year depending on the actual vin. And that is with discounts and a CDL.

As a CDL holder, you only need a CDL if you purchase the model with Air brakes, I also called my Insurance and yes it requires a Commercial policy, 1200 thru Liberty.

As stated lot of older models, Pre-emission is the only way to go

Will this be your daily driver as well? Have you considered the HDT route like I did? You are going thru almost what I did and that is why I went HDT, cheaper then a new pickup and also a used MDT plus the MDT were a bit underpowered and ride a little bit rougher. My HDT is a registered "RV" so according to my home state (De) no cdl needed but I still carry mine, thanks UPS just for the Christmas work, feel free to ask or even pm ne for any more info on the HDT route

Yes this would be my daily driver, if you call 2 miles to ups a drive...lol, I'm thinking that a Full sized tractor would be to big (but i don't know) for campgrounds we are doing, (some state parks in Pa)
My biggest issue is selling it to the DW as she can't see the need for it.

I bought a 2012 Sportchassis last week and am waiting on the hitch to be delivered and installed. I think the 20k lb toy hauler is fixing to be humbled. The ole girl isn't in charge anymore. I love my F350, but it is about to be history
