Failed Science Class In High School

Failed science class in High School.

Do not laugh as these kinds of things drive me nuts!

Photo of hitch that was used before getting new tow truck this week.

This set up was perfect on my former truck, but now am challenged with getting the same results on new truck with a receiver hitch 1" further off the ground.

My gut tells me I need to flip the adapter (with holes for bolts)............but am trying to figure out a way that will not take a day of continued adjustments.

I do use a Curt WDH. Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you need to flip it over. It may just be the picture but the hole spacing looks inconsistent to me, if it really is that may cause issues.

Any time you change truck or trailer you really need to check or change all setting and it may take awhile to get it dialed in

You will need to flip it but not sure of the "a days worth of adjustments" comment?

If you know what your ball height was before, simply match that height with it reversed.

And I hope the look of the ball is an optical illusion and not worn that way!

In my opinion, you've got a brand new TV which is obviously different from the old TV. The prudent thing to do is to redo your setup. Anything less than that is nothing but a guess.

Believe I can flip the hitch insert over and leave one empty hole on the bottom and that will give me the 1" inch difference between trucks and go from there after I get camper hooked up and WDH installed.

Pretty sure the new truck may have different spring rates. My old truck is a fifteen-year-old Silverado, new tow truck is a 2022 F150 XL.

If that sounds stupid.............let me know.........

Thanks for the help.

As 5Picker said, just flip it over put the ball mount back on it and measure to get the proper height. Both trucks being 1/2 tons there shouldn’t be a lot difference needed in the hitch setup.

One reply besides this one is correct. D W's.
Start from scratch on a level flat paved lot with the original instructions for the hitch (can find it online) and a tape measure and correct tools.
This is the only way to get it right.

Is it safe to assume your trailer doesn't exceed the weight limits of your nice new truck? I hope you checked that before your bought the truck.

There are only so many holes in the drawbar hitch. Flip the hitch, make your best "hole guess," and hook up. If it's right you're done. It not it'll be obvious which way you need to try next Repeat if necessary. Not exactly an all day job.

Travel trailer is approximately 4000# loaded. Tow vehicle can handle up to 9700#.

I am in the "club" that wants a tow vehicle rated to pull twice the load of trailer.

Thanks

I don't need twice the capacity but want an extra ton capacity (the One Ton Rule) to allow for cargo and passengers in the tow vehicle, steep grades, and high summer temperatures.
