Fastway E2 WDH

Just bought a Fastway E2, 6K WDH from etrailer.com. I also purchased a Powerbuild 1 7/8" socket from them that they said would work perfectly to install the ball. The socket will not work to install the ball. Anyone know what the socket OD is for a socket that will work? I'll turn it on a lathe to make it fit . Thanks

My ball took a 1 11/16 socket. We the e2 can use just use a big crescent or pipe wrench? My e4 required a socket since the nut is recessed

I have an E2 hitch that was installed by dealer. according to the manual, ball requires 1-7/8 socket. What manufacturer hitch ball did you buy? Sounds like you'll have to match that. I will also mention that the manual says to torque the hitch ball to 450lbs, which means (for me) I won't be attaching a hitch ball. I did pick up a 250ft/lb torque wrench to adjust the shank bolts.
Good luck.

Might be easier to buy a new ball with a 1 7/8" nut unless you are saying the socket is too thick walled and won't fit up in there? I'll have to look at mine, I have that hitch and did it myself. I can't remember if I had to buy a new socket or already had one in the drawer but I'll look when I get home.

I finally figured out what the problem was with the socket. It's not the wall thickness, it's the length of the socket body. Fastway designed the WHD to require a propiatary socket that only they sell for $67.00. What a ripoff, the sockets not worth more than $20.00. I was able to grind 1/8" off the length and rechamfer the id of my Powerbuilt socket from etrailer and get it to slip on. I was concerned about modifying the socket but had no problems torquing it at the 450# as stated on the 1 7/8" ball.

Strange, I bet the old socket in my toolbox just happened to fit no problem. Did I torque it to 450? Who knows, 450 seems like code for "as tight as possible." Or my 225 pound weight on a 2' bar. Science!
