Fifth Wheel Tow dolly

Interesting tow dolly solution for those that want to tow a fifth wheel when the towing vehicle has low pay load capability......

Wish they'd given some diamentions on length.....looks like for those hav'n a lot of area to back in to might be their answer.....405 area code ? Sure frees up bed of a truck.

I know that the Automated Safety Hitch advertised that backing up took less space as the tow dolly itself turned. Marketing stuff, but they had some videos that showed it.

I don't know who makes this one.

Interesting product, but I feel like their market is very small and price tag very hefty ($10k).

My problem with this is I can just see someone hooking up a 42 foot, 16,000 lb. fifth wheel to a Honda Civic with it and go down the highway with it.

I wouldn't want to be in the same state with them!

It might allow a SUV pull a 5er, it might even stop it, but I can't seeing it being able to control it, especially going down hill.

There would be those that towed with a m/h....with a 15' rear overhang!

Again, I can't speak to this specific one. But I know that the Automated Safety Hitch advertised the brakes on it increasing the braking power of the whole setup. I know one family who pull with a 1-ton passenger van so that they have room for their team.. err.. pile of kids.

Seems like a solid solution to a need.

I saw that one in use at campground on the coast. Asked the person using it why and he told me because the fifth wheel was a company unit that everybody uses and he stated if he had a fiver he would not use it. That was the biggest fiver I have ever seen had dually type axles and a slide out porch. He was towing with a F-250.

Yeah, I know the ASH folks claim it is and offer a letter saying so. But I think someone looked into it in VA and that claim was dubious. I know I wouldn't want to be at a LEO's judgement on the side of the road.

Only behind another trailer that is connected to the fifth wheel. Somewhere along the line the first connection is the fifth wheel.

Isn't this the same basic system that 18 wheelers use when they are pulling two trailers?

Don't they hook to a pintle hook on the rear of the trailer?
