First Time Hooking Up to Tow Vehicle - Newbie

Picked up our 2109s Wednesday. Drove home, parked it in our driveway, and unhitched. Today have been trying to hitch up for about an hour with absolutely no success. We have a WDH, and the bars that go from the TV hitch to the tongue appear to be greatly misaligned. Pointing too far inward.....way under the tongue with no way of bringing them up and over the lip they get pinned to.

Help!!!!

Any chance you have the bars on the wrong sides?
WDH's are pretty straightforward as far as connecting once properly set up.
Photos might help us help you.

We put the bars in the under storage of the TT on each side so we wouldn't mix them up, so that isn't the case.

Here are 2 pics if I did this right. The first is the passenger side, and the second is the drivers side. The TT has not yet been dropped onto the ball, because if we lower the tongue it pushes down on the bars. Shouldn't they be out from under the tongue a little bit?

What type of WdH do you have? I.e. Equalizer, centerline, Reese, etc.

I've never had a Husky Centerline but on my Equal-i-zer brand hitch you need to use the tongue jack to raise the back end of the truck so you can get the bars on. Have you tried that?

Ok I have the same. If it is new then they will be very hard to pull outwards. I had to use a little oil on mine to get it so I could move them.

Once you can get the out then you have a long funny looking piece of metal with a handle on one end and a funny looking hook on other this will help you raise and push these into place.

It's a great easy hitch once you get use to it.

Hook the trailer to the ball and jack the trailer and truck up at the same time. This makes it far easier to attach the bars.

I have the same hitch. If the bars are installed in the hitch head and are too far towards the center of the trailer you would just grab them by the end and pull them out past the brackets. You will be fighting the friction material that is part of the anti sway but it should still be possible. After you get the tow vehicle and trailer jacked up enough simply push the bars over the brackets and let the tow vehicle and trailer back down. There is not a proper side to the bars but there is an up and down - the label should be up, just like you have in your picture.

Last question for you all. When we unhitch all goes well except the disconnect of the ball. We practically raise the back end of our truck off the ground before it releases. Would a little grease help with that?

You have to pull the truck forward so the latch clamp can clear the ball.

A little grease is good anyways. Sometimes I have to pull forward a half inch so the pawl will release and then back up a half inch to center the ball in the coupler.

I have that hitch setup also. It is a good thing to grease the ball with something like axle grease or similar. Doesn't need to be the best, and only need a little.

When disconnecting, I just put the truck in park (trailer is already chocked), and leave the parking brake off. It allows the truck to "roll" an inch or so forward and back, which solves the problem.

To get mine to release I usually have to lower the hitch a bit until the release pall will move back, the raise it back up to pull the truck forward, finally leveling the trailer after the truck is free. Experiment (and keep fingers clear!)
