Flat towing a 1997 Honda CR-V

Does anyone know if its OK to flat tow a 1997 Honda CR-V all wheel drive. We are purchasing a motorhome and hope to tow our CR-V. Thanks

Check with multiple mechanics, not just Honda or etrailer. com. We just came back from a month long trip towing a Honda 2000 CRV all wheel drive. We followed all Honda's recommendations, followed the manual for the car and followed what some online retailers recommended...we are now back home with a burned up transmission.

About 500 miles from home, while towing the transmission started smoking. Long story short - we had to tow it, get a small trailer and tow it back home. It is at our mechanic now. Find out all you can before you tow.

Again we did EVERYTHING recommended by Honda. Our mechanic said it should have never been flat towed regardless of what Honda recommended. Good Luck.

Does anyone on this forum know if a Honda CRV can be flat towed safely? How about a 2013 model. The factory says its ok. The dealer says its ok. The RV mechanic says its ok. I say its ok. But is it? We do pull a fuse which disconnects the electrical to save the battery.

Good luck getting anything from Honda, they know their cars, that's it. Try asking or checking at etrailer.com. Everyone told us fine, I see others do it. It has to do with the automatic transmission. No fluid is apparently pumped through the transmission when towed but the transmission still spins. I'm no expert, We thought we would use my wife's old car as our exclusive tow vehicle, now back to the drawing board.

Manual says it's ok. Just be sure to shift from drive to neutral- not park or reverse to neutral. That's where the problem lies.
