GMC 2500HD Transmission cooler
H i Folks
I just bought a brand new GMC 2500HD with towing package. I would like to install additional transmission cooling, preferably one with it's own fan. Anyone done this so far? If so which one did you use and where did you put it?

Not on any of my trucks, but I've put this on a couple jeeps I've had.

No reason to add one. The one that comes with the truck does an excellent job. I've never had to add an additional one to any of the newer Chevy 3/4 or 1 ton trucks that I had. Later RJD

I tow a 10K trailer with just the installed transmission cooler. I added the transmission temperature to the digital display to monitor it's temperature. Try that to determine if you need additional cooling.

My 2012 Chevy with Duramax/Allison combo seldom hits 165 with the factory cooling even pulling long grades towing.

Agree. Ran ours recently with outside temps of 100 and the everything stayed fine, but we did stop more often at rest areas to let tires, bearings and oil temps cool a little. Had the time and the brief rest did us good.

What are you towing? and where are you towing? Im sure it can be done but why are you adding another/extra one?

I really cannot see the need for the extra tranny cooler. I have a 2015 GMC 2500HD gas with the tow pkg and the cooler on it works great. Pulled my unit up 7,8 and 9% grades when out West last year and not once did the tranny get overheated. When u switch to tow/haul mode your gauges change and u get a transmission temp gauge also. I would try it first before putting a lot of $$ into something u really do not need. IMHO

Transmission cooler
I would recommend a PPE (Pacific Performance Engineering) tranny cooler. I installed one on my 2005 2500 HD Duramax. I've noticed a significant change in the transmission temps ( around 25-30 degrees) when towing. Regular city driving the temps equalize to the engine temp. I live in Colorado so mountain driving is a test for the truck. I'm towing a 23' XLR toy hauler with a Harley touring bike (FLHTK) and at times a 20' Cargo Mate enclosed car trailer with a 69 Mustang in it. There are several after market coolers for your truck. PPE is a bit more expensive but IMO worth the money.

In your case with a 11 year old truck yes you may need it but newer trucks do not require an additional cooler unless your trying to tow more than the truck is designed to tow. Spend your money on travels  Later RJD

It's not.
That a non towing temp.
Pulling my snowmobile trailer in 0 conditions mine reached 170-180 degrees

My 2015 Duramax pulling a 16,000# 5th wheel runs 125 going down the highway and only gets to 150 going up a mountain grade. No need for a additional cooler.

What do you mean by 0 condition?
I have a hard time believing these reports (not you) of 150 degrees with a 15,000+ trailer up the mountain.
I was pulling 11,000 lbs in 90 degree weather a few weeks ago. I was 190 in the flats and 210 in medium grades.
Seems like the numbers are very far apart. I know my factory trans cooler is pretty significant.

I rarely ever even hit 150 degrees on my trans oil with my 2004 Silverado 2500HD while towing a 10,000 gvw tandem axle dump loaded with sand.
Never got to 160 degrees when I used to tow that 98 FR Wildwood 26' 5er.
but I live in Michigan and rarely ever had to drive in 100 degree heat.
So, yes that 160 degree mark can be correct

Just in case you still want to, even if not needed. Never enough money, horsepower, or time off work so why not too much cooling.
I like the fan for this reason. Install it on a switch and you can run it for a short while after towing to simply throw air over that hot engine and it components. Why not that's my logic.
So this one it a MITSIMOTO. they are a USA company in DE. Just over $ 100.00 on line. Very happy with mine
