If you plan to tow anything at all on anything but flat land, 3.43 are still too light for me. Nothing less than 3.73. Here in the WV mountains that even goes for daily commute. Mileage is better than with weaker ratios.

Mine is 4x4, 3.5 EB and 5.5 bed. Smaller bed is probably why my payload is higher.

My philosophy after having a Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, Ford F 150 and now a 250 diesel, is you can never have too much truck!! Of course, you have to be able to afford it, but I won’t be buying anything but a diesel from now on.

I took the opposite opinion. I plan to never own a diesel again. I had a 7.3L Excursion, a F-350 7.3L and a 05.5 Ram 2500 with the 5.9L. All were great while running, but all cost more in maintenance and when something did fail it was prohibitively expensive to repair.
Being that I am not using my truck to tow giant/heavy things often, I normally just commute in them or haul a 5000 lb tractor or a 5200 lb jeep on a 2500 lb car haler. But I don't haul things around daily or weekly, so my gas half ton RAM does just fine with the 5.7L and 3.92 gears.
My truck tracks towing miles vs non towing and I float right around 20%-25% towing miles. But then, I don't drive the truck much unless I need a truck. I have a '14 Wrangler "summer car" and a '04 Grand Prix "winter beater" that I drive. Funny.... I store my 4x4 truck and my 4x4 Jeep in the winters so that they do not ever see salt.

I just went from a 2014 GMC 2500HD Duramax 6.6L 3:73 Crew Cab to a 2019 Chevy Colorado 3.6 V6 3:43 Crew Cab 5' 2" bed. LOVE IT !!!

Never skimp on tv.
I would never pull a trailer with a front wheel drive vehicle. Just plain unsafe, even with a wdh. Think about what we are doing. Piling ourselves and family into a vehicle along with stuff then adding a camper, usually over size and weight, then traveling down the highway, which is an uncontrolled environment. While camping can be done on a shoestring budget, it is usually safety that takes a back seat. Case in point. Neighbor bought a 21ft mini winnie. That was the weight limit of their Dodge Caravan. They were planning a trip to Canada from Florida and back. When they brought it home I just shook my head. It my be fine for lical camping, but I handed them the keys to my F150 and said they would use it to take the trip. 2 adult, 2 kids 4 bikes..... you get the idea. They had a wonderful trip. They have since traded in the mini van for a 4 runner. At least a step in the right direction.

Sink your mind into this joke..... 2017 Ram Hemi 5.7L 8-speed with 3.92 gears and the Max Tow 10,160 lb tow rated. Sounds decent right? Here is where the funny part comes in! Conversely, my father just ordered and bought a 2019 Ford F-150 3.5L Eco 10-speed with the max tow and max payload packages. He is rated at 12,800 towing and 1,845 payload on his particular build. So at least at the max tow load and minimum tongue weight of 1,300 lbs he would have 550 ish lbs of payload left so that he can actually sit in the truck and drive it! Maybe even bring my mother along with him... and a dog or two.
I screwed that up. I will not do that again.

Just a heads up, you can't get max payload package on a King Ranch but you can get max towing. Are you sure his payload is 1845? My loaded Platinum payload with very similar specs to his (no max payload since not available on Platinum either), is 1565 and that's with a 5.5 bed so even lighter. Just trying to keep things straight for anyone considering a purchase

Yes, I got that number from the sticker in the door jam. Something about the KR doesn't let you order the max payload rear spring set, I even contacted Ford directly to see if it could be worked around to get that number higher. No go. His build is as good as you can possibly build a 19 KR with regard to towing. But it's still a massive amount better than my Rebel with the air suspension.

Ok right on. I saw in your sig that you had a KR listed at 1680 so wasn't sure if you had the 1845 # right or not. Either way, much better than the Ram, and I really do like them but just couldn't do it for the payload.

Mine is a 2017. My 3 year lease is up 3/2020, and I am torn... The new Rebel can be optioned now with the coil springs and the payload is up in the 1,800 lb area.... But mine is a Mojave Sand Edition and I am so in love with the color! If I could get a 2020 Ram in Mojave Sand I would jump so fast that your head would spin.
But I really don't feel that a 1,050 lb payload is acceptable, so I'm up against a rock and a hard place.
I pray that Ram does a 2020 Mojave Sand Edition like mine, if they did it would be the last truck I bought for about 15 years.
So if I can't get my beloved Mojave Sand, maybe I'll look at a Ford F150 Lariat or Platinum. My father's KR ride is so amazing and plush, and the leather in it is exquisite to the touch. I've never been in a luxury car or truck that feels so amazing. Oh, and the massage seat thing.... Who would have dreamt of such luxury!? That truck is do over the top, words just can't describe it.

The last time I looked at a ram was in 2013 before I owned a trailer. I remember them saying the payload capacity was low, I just didn't realize it was that low. At 1,000 lbs, with my pop up with a 350 lb tounge weight, wife, kid, gear, and camper shell, I would be close to being maxed out.
