got hit

On Friday a 18 wheeler changed lanes and a car cranked their steering wheel hard right and hit my TT heading North on I-45 out of Houston.18 wheeler Driver got a ticket. Car was totaled. No one was hurt. Drivers side TT wheels were bent in to TT at a 45 degree battle, Not towable. Could not get a landoll trailer to load up the RV, took 6 hours to get a tow truck that would take the job. Finally a 18 wheeler tow truck and Houston Sheriff squeezed down a lane of traffic and tow truck removed one TT wheel, hooked up my Propride P3 lot bar and was escorted down the 1-45 at 10 mph. Finally arrived a RV Dealer. 18 wheeler Insurance is giving me grief over the tow charge.

My F250 was not hit. TT was damaged. 1-4 week repair time. Summer trip to National Parks is cancelled. Since we are full timing, we have living expenses. Any on had any experience in getting a Trucking Company's Ins to pay (trucking company runs 3,000 loads a day) for any and all damages, tow charge, living expenses as well as trip cancellation. Also, learned a new word, Landoll trailer.

We had to get the big boys to tow us last summer. Both the truck and fifth wheel.

The bill was $1600 for about 20 miles. Took hours.

Your bill will be kind of awful. My guess is two axles, full suspension and 4 tires. $6-8K.

I thought in a case like this you have to sue the car and he sues the trucking company. Further compicating the issue.

Your insurance will pay if they do not.

Let your insurance talk to them.

This is what you pay YOUR Insurance Company for. File a claim with them and they will do all the heavy lifting.

Since it's not your fault they won't up your rates and they'll collect from the other insurance company.

TT Damage

May need the services of an attorney that specializes in damage caused by 18-wheelers. Your insurance company may take care of you but they may try to skimp on what they are willing to pay.

Why? They're going to collect from the trucker's insurance company in the end through subrogation.

With no personal injury I doubt an attorney will really be interested. Their bread and butter is large personal injury awards that they then take 25% or more off the top.

GOT HIT UPDATE
Impact of car has bent hangers that hold the leaf springs. Hangers are attached to the I beam. Doesn't look like a repairable item to me. Current plan is to strap them/hit em with a heavy hammer and straighten the hangers. Pic 2 shows bent hangers. Pic 1 shows bent metal rod connected to slide. Slide issues also. Slide was not closing so tech push in on one side while slide being retracted, jump slide back "in time",

That's what is "supposed to" happen. Doesn't always work out that way.

I've been in a few accidents where the other person was completely at fault and their insurance company still fought tooth and nail over it.

Even with a police report it's amazing how often the other person's version of what happened varies wildly from what actually happened.

A couple of times my insurance company was lucky to get 50% back.

Since insurance companies always want accidents reported, not doing so can bite you if having trouble collecting from 'at fault' insurance. If you haven't told yours they CAN (not will) use that against you if you need to go to them later.

Also, even though they aren't supposed to, ANY inquiry to your insurance company is logged and can be used against you in the future. It has been a while but this happened to me.

Also, your payments can increase without your RATE being increased if you have discounts. Something else I have personally experienced.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over what insurance company can't recover. I'm only concerned that my insurance company will cover my loss under the terms of the policy. Insurance companies deal in the billions of dollars. By now, they know the risks. They employ platoons of trial lawyers to protect their interests. Now, if your insurance company can only recoup 50%, and they cause you to suffer, then you probably need to look into a new insurance carrier.
