The keyhole is for your truck key. It will unlock and allow removal of the lock cylinder. The remaining hole is where you put the crank to lower the spare tire.

this is the locking cover for your spare tire. you have a jack and handle somewhere in the truck. your ignition key removes the lock which exposes a hole and funnel. assemble the handle and slide it down the funnel and turn to the left to lower your spare tire (under the bed, behind the hitch).

That accesses the screw to lower your spare tire.
Your brake controller works in conjunction with the truck brakes. The lever allows you to apply the trailer brakes independently.
Personally, I’d recommend getting a weight distribution hitch for your trailer. It increases stability. That’s my opinion. Others may have different opinions.
I had great luck with a Harbor Freight weight distribution hitch on our last three trailers. Same hitch and bars, just switched the brackets when we got a new trailer. Don’t laugh, it’s a nice hitch for a very reasonable price.

So based on the sticker if I dont have a wdh I can only haul 5,000lbs? How do I know if this hitch is weight distributing already?

The trailer brakes are applied proportionally to the amount of pressure you put on your brake pedal (the harder you press the more braking you get). That little sliding lever is only used to manually activate your trailer brakes. The + and - buttons adjust how hard the trailer brakes are applied.
Find and empty stretch of road or parking lot. With your trailer in tow, get up to about 20MPH and manually activate the trailer brakes, you should feel a tiny bit of of pull back as your trailer's brakes activate. Use those buttons to increase or decrease braking until that tiny bit of pull is detected. As your brakes get worn in or the weight of trailer changes, you will want to periodically adjust it as needed.

Without a WDH your max is 500 lbs on the tongue. Your receiver is not a WDH. The specs on your rig say the hitch weight comes in at 681 lbs unladen and the trailer itself comes in at 4977 lbs. You will need a WDH to ensure a safety margin.

Doing this will answer a lot of your questions. It has an entire section on Towing.
It will also tell you other things, like what the keyhole is for.

Looks like the lock to your spare tire.
Sorry for the late / redundant reply, my phone took forever to send...

Look like the lock for your spare tire removal. Dont ask how i know. Just stick ignition key in and turn. A hole will open up to insert the jack handle to lower your spare tire.

The easiest way to end your confusion and apprehension would be for you to bring your truck here to Michigan, let us use it to pull our camper next year while making videos of everything we do, and then give you the truck and the videos next fall. I’m kidding, of course. Or am I?

The factory brake controller will operate your trailer brakes in conjunction with truck brakes, that's how it knows how much braking to apply proportionate to how hard you press brake pedal. You will definitely need WDH, it is not overkill. Your tongue weight limit without it is only 500lb, which you will easily be at or over, loaded for travel.
**edit, just saw other posters already covered this.

A lot changed from 98 to 2020
First be aware it’s a lot to learn.
Join a Facebook support group for the F-150.
Use search feature on U-Tube.
As I just spent 5 min looking for the roll of duct tape, Why you ask?
When it all bounces around, the fridge door stays closed, the water heater door, outside shower door,
Stove vent flap, and propane tank cover are still there when we arrive at campground.
Goodbye luck and have fun trying to learn the new electronics on truck.

I think its for the spare tire.
Definitely get a Weight Distribution Hitch of a known brand, ie not at Harbor Freight. Its insurance against an emergency should one arise.
Your brakes wiring is one of the 7 pins. Before taking a trip use a voltmeter to confirm that all of the wiring to your 7 pin connector is intact and functioning. Alternatively hook up the trailer and check to see that all is functioning properly.
The Lariat is a nice daily driver so you will probably be pleased with your purchase.
https://www.f150forum.com/f118/ lots of expertise on your truck here.

HA! I was born and raised in MI - my family had 40 acres near St Helen. Roscommon and Houghton Lake are my old (14yo) stomping grounds!

Well, we will be certain to visit those areas when we do the F-150 camping video instructional series next summer.
While I had very good luck with my HF weight distribution hitch, there are many excellent hitches to choose from. Curt, Reese, Husky are just a few of them.
Regarding your F-150, one neat feature is the ability to program a personal unlock code into the system, for using the touchpad instead of a key fob.

It is a lock to your spare tire. It must be removed to enable you to insert the crank to lower your spare to provide access.

You’ll like the 3.5 eb. Lots of pulling power and not bad mileage. Do you know what size gas tank you have? The 36gal tank is nice for range both towing and not towing.
