X2.....Not that it is 100% related but I always used K&N filters in my street motorcycles one of which was a 2008 Suzuki GSX650F I ran it to 118K miles until I lost a cylinder and started losing compression in the other three.

I took it into the local dealer and they confirmed the motor was on it's last leg and told me I shouldn't have never started using a K&N air filter they let way to much dirt into the engine and not beneficial to the engine for what little if any power gain it may have made.

I I purchased your truck used, it would be the first thing I changed if I actually bought it in the first place since it already had it on it.

With as many used vehicles as there are out there, I won’t even bother looking at a vehicle that has such aftermarket things on it. I don’t want to inherit someone else’s problems or potentially-abused vehicle. Lift, tuner, or intake are deal-breakers for me.

Over more than 5 decades of driving all kinds of vehicles I've found they are most reliable if just left as they came out of the box.

Most claims of improved performance are anecdotal and rarely backed with "dyno results". Where drastic modifications are made, and performance gains are achieved, it's usually with two sacrifices. Lots of money first and reliability second

Now I just buy truck and/or trailer that play well together then keep both maintained

The only accessory that is guaranteed to improve towing mpg is a spacer installed under the gas pedal. 😀

X2....I failed to mention in my above post that all the mods I did to the truck too me really didn't increase it's performance I didn't have any reliability issues it was fairly comfortable except for the noise of the large tires that I'm sure cut into my MPG it was more of a hobby doing it so spending the money wasn't an issue it was just when it was stolen and I needed to replace it I was just going to go the simple stock route this time

Which is kind of funny because none of the cars or trucks and motorcycles that I had prior were never left in stock form.

I bought a K&N filter for my Jeep Liberty diesel. When it came, the directions said not to use it in dusty conditions. I live in NM, which is all about dusty conditions. The K&N filter is still in the box.
