Has anybody used the new Haulgauge yet?
The Haulgauge phone app with OBD plug in sensor (with accelerometers in it).
Initially seems like voodoo but it appears to work, the accelerometers being the key.
Once calibrated (with many vehicle configurations in a library), by using acceleration and angle differences, it will tell you your tongue weight, trailer weight, TV payload weight.
Works with most any smart phone using Bluetooth.

Also interested in seeing some real world feedback. Definitely seems too good to be true...

Thinking about it but only hail one 5th wheel and not close to max tow or payload so after first trip I wonder about the value

Might get one for my birthday in April.
The logic and tech were available in the 1970's but not miniaturized enough. I worked on ballistic missiles then for the US Navy. Detecting angles and acceleration in minute amounts is all that's needed with a lot of math

I get how this thing works, but I want to know how it overcomes the following:
We know that spring rates are progressive, and also easily calculated. I understand that the pitch of the vehicle is used to calculate the weight on the rear end. How does it account for spring rate differences caused by helper springs, or weight distributing hitches?
Their website isn't really clear on that.

Decided to call and see if the HaulGauge would VIN lock if I tried it in my half ton first they said no. So here are my thoughts so far if you accelerate correctly as in not too slowly or fast it put me write in the listed curb weight of the truck did it again with wife and daughter weight went up accordingly but with it being a gauge vs digital read out just hard to say how precise but I say within 75 pounds. Tried the payload portion of app probably about 50 or less pounds on light side that said I weighed when I got home and was 7 pounds lighter than I entered when I calibrated

HaulGauge review
Mr. Truck recently reviewed the new Silverado 2.7L 4 cyl. He compared some weights with HaulGauge near the beginning of the video:

I received my HaulGauge today, and it seems to work fairly well. I examined my weight distribution, and it probably detected my setup was wrong correctly. I suspected as much, and adjusted it. Checked it again and it was good! Seems legit.

Ordered mine yesterday. Happy birthday to me. Hope it works as well as I've read.

Well, installed it in the Explorer. Completed the initial calibration. The website states that they don't have 2008 and earlier in their library. True. You have to go to the App Store to download the app, no links on factory website. Also no written guide available or demo program in the app ;(
So you have to install the Haulgauge, download the app, and follow the data install and calibration procedures as they tell you, step by step.
You need to enter your TV VIN, GVWR, payload capacity and weight of occupants and cargo. You cannot start the process and enter the data until the Haulgauge connects with Bluetooth, so no starting data entry in the house ;(
Then a whole bunch of acceleration soft, medium, & hard to 15mph, then a complete stop after each. Straight line, level road. I had a lot more traffic to deal with than I expected on the roads I chose, a real PITA. It takes about a mile or a little more.
A demo program or written guide would have better prepared me, like knowing how many starts and stops to expect. I had to make a few turns between measurements but that did not appear to be a problem.
I will probably perform a recalibration now that I know what it entails.
Yes, there are Utube videos on the calibration but I did not have a second unit to watch them as I was doing it.
I am not complaining about the actual unit, once calibrated, but pointing out initial procedural annoyances.
The suspension calibration was simple.
I look forward to recalibrating it using my experience and working with my TT for measurements.

Sent a pm to Haulgauge with suggestions for improving their product use and the customer experience.
Also noted to them that Haulgauge does NOT show up on an iPad app search. If you select iPhone only apps for the search, it will show up AND download onto the iPad as an iPhone app.

I've been working as sort of a beta tester with these guys for a couple of months. They now do understand that many of their target customers might have suspension mods, and are testing some of the more common mods on their own test fleet plus trying to get pertinent info from the mod builders.
Lots of work being done to improve functionality and connectivity of the app guage interface. I for example experience guage not found errors that requires me to unplug and replug the guage from the OBD2. They have been able to confirm that and have been working on understanding root cause.
I'm really pulling for these guys because it really could be a game changer in helping folks understand weight.
One thing that the current or potential user must understand about capability of this guage, is that although not advertised, it's measurement capability is +/- 5%.
That coupled with the low resolution analog scale, things like payload or hitch weight are are best only within 100-150#.
That might be close enough for some, but for those like me pushing my 1/2 payload limits, I'll still need the CAT to distinguish good from not good.

Swapped into my new F150. Read and recognized the VIN. No calibration needed. It didn't even ask for the sensor OBD orientation like it did for the old Explorer. It JUST KNOWS

Well I too am pulling for these guys. First use was in 2008 Titan. Had to self calibrate and yes it’s a lot of start stops. End result 1,000 lbs difference from cat scale on weight. So then installed in 2012 sprinter. ( work truck) self calibrated that was awesome and quick. That said yes older vehicles are going to be more troublesome. Anyway to the results again just over 1,000 lbs off. Good thing there was consistency with being off about 1,000 lbs. that was a few weeks ago haven’t played much since. Will soon.
Hoping some software improves over time. I’m a gadget guy so I’ve enjoyed tinkering and if the company continues, I think it will only get better.
Ok so I noticed when I posted picture that it’s more than a 1,000 lbs. the Titan weighs 6040 lbs.

You can do a manual calibration on the new vehicle to see if it makes a difference.

Just bought one yesterday... tied it this afternoon, and pretty surprised at the accuracy.
Had weighed TT and TV while in the states and was combined about 12000, gauge has it in around 11000

So I checked at a weight station just my TV weight to see how accurate this is. After my initial setup it seemed to be within a decent margin. So I wanted confirmation
This was the results pretty damn impressive.

You can change the scale to have clearer view of the values. But cool it is that accurate
