Has anyone received a moving citation while towing or driving a MH ?

While I do not condone officers breaking the law, I for one will not allow them to do so without recourse on my squad... We often go to locations for emergencies but may not have our lights on. Depending on circumstances it actually slows us down since people do not know how to react to an approaching emergency vehicle, but they seem to remember to mover out of the left lane when a police car is in the rear view driving.

If they are not going to a call, then yes, I also have a problem with it.

If I understand your post correctly your are saying that drivers in your area will not get out of the way of a emergency vehicle identified with flashing lights but will get over for an unidentified vehicle approaching from behind assuming it is a police car? Something just does not seem right.

So you have never seen the cop coming from behind you 100 miles away and get out of the way.. Yeah people know our vucs and chargers from the just headlight pattern it seems so yes that is correct.. As for not moving, yeah they do.. But it is more of a panic move. As I say, one goes right, one goes left.. Then one stops in the middle of the road.


Edit. Kind of like how everyone knows what an unmarked car looks like.. They all still look like cop cars.

First off although it is very flat around my neck of the woods I have never seen a cop coming from 100 miles behind me unless they have their lights on and are a lot closer. Again if you say drivers spend enough time looking in their rear view mirror to identify a set of head lights rather just notice the flashing lights then I guess they are more ignorant that I thought.

Their might be a cost saving in just getting ride of the lights all together and encouraging people to spend more time looking behind them rather than in front.

Around here some of us do.. They "glow" while driving around. Mostly in the higher crime areas like Philly.

This is what happens when a police car with lights and sometimes siren on appears in your rear view; 9 chances out of 10, the officer will be in the passing lane or as close to the center line (2 lane) as possible....why because everybody is supposed to move over to the right. But.....panic & confusion set in. Some will move right immediately, some will just slow down & the worst will stop dead in their tracks. When you have any combination of these happening in heavy traffic, you have cars all over the roadway at different angles which means the officer now has to weave & be EXTRA cautious which can slow his/her response time.

Now, almost everyone knows what the front of police car looks like especially if it has the huge push bar on it. So, when he/she cruises up behind you without all the fireworks going, what goes through your mind is "don't think he wants me, I'll just get the heck out of the way!"

So, before anybody jumps and says the police shouldn't be driving faster than the speed limit without lights and/or siren, there are 3 types of police responses; 1 - Serious accidents, life & death, robbery, officer down/needs assistance etc - LIGHTS & SIREN. 2 - Burglar alarm activations, backing up another officer, past robbery etc. - just LIGHTS. 3 - Other urgent situations (ie; dispatched as details as yet unknown but head in that direction to assist primary unit etc.) - NO LIGHTS or SIREN.

Not saying this is every agencies policy. It was the policy in my agency and surrounding agencies were similar.

I have never seen anyone drive 55, now with all the knowledge here, it says trucks and autos pulling trailers, is that pick-up trucks pulling trailers, or does that include all semi's pulling trailers, anyone care to indulge me in this answer
