Help: Need Toyota 4 Runner Extendable Mirrors
I know most of you will say “go buy a real truck”, but for now this is all we have, so it’s what it is.
We have a Forest River Vibe 18RB and will be pulling it with our 4 Runner.
The issue is I can’t see around it and have not been able to find good solid mirror extensions.
We now have a rear camera on the back of the trailer, but would like to see along the side of the trailer.
If Anyone out there knows of a solution, press share.
Thanks,
|

E trailer has a whole bunch based on vehicle year. Most strap to the existing mirror. Maybe you can find one that clips on.
https://www.etrailer.com/tm-2016_Toy...tm?&Redirect=8
Change the year for the right match.
Good luck!

Not a 4-runner, but I’ve been very happy with the flip-on mirrors from e-trailer that I bought for my F-150.

Furrion makes side mounted cameras that are built into running lights for the trailer. Also allows you to see what is on the opposite side of a turn when backing that isn’t visible in a mirror.

I purchased the rear camera model that I could upgrade to those side cameras. You are right as this being a good option, but not excited about the cost.
Thanks for the reply.

CIPA brand of add on mirrors have been good for me. Look on amazon for your particular style

Tow Mirrors for 4 Runner
We tow a Mini-lite 1905 and use these Dometic DM-2912 Milenco Grand Aero3 Towing Mirror - Twin Pack on Amazon on these from CIPA https://www.amazon.com/CIPA-11980-Un...%2C231&sr=8-19 also on amazon and while the 4Runner may struggle on some hills we have found it does the job and at some point if the DW allows we will get a pickup truck
And from another Chiefs Fan 35-31 great win

I have one of these for my '17 Tacoma TRD Off Road. It has worked fine for me
https://www.etrailer.com/Towing-Mirr...ID=20164083838
I also use one type that I can not find now which straps on to the existing mirror with two ratcheting straps. It is more difficult to hook up, but does not threaten to crack the mirror housing. I agree - seeing down the side(s) is important.

You will not find any 'custom made' mirrors for the 4runner...I've looked. The best you can do is buy the universal ones.

I had a 4Runner and I liked and used McKesh mirrors. There is both a flat mirror and a convex that lets you see the dead spots. Easy to use and work well.

CIPA mirrors
We tried a few mirrors that clipped on to the existing mirrors but none of them would stay in position. We found the CIPA deluxe door mount mirror on etrailer.
https://www.etrailer.com/Mirrors/CIPA/11650.html
They work great on our 4runner. They hang between the door and the window glass, have a brace half way down the door and hook onto the bottom of the door. (Be sure to twist the strap one time around at the bottom to prevent wind vibration)
Here's a you tube:

What year is your 4Runner? I believe the front half of a 4Runner is the same as a Tacoma. I got the perfect fit for my 2017 Tacoma from 1A Auto. It was about a 2 hour install for this 2017 Toyota Tacoma Driver & Passenger Side Power Heated Turn Signal Blind Spot Detection Chrome Flip-Up Towing 2 Piece Mirror Set. They look like Dodge Ram mirrors. They flip up to extend.

Since you don't want to upgrade to a "Real Truck" the cost of upgrading to a good set of mirrors is the only option, isn't it?

X2...^^^This^^^
When I was towing with my Tacoma, I went on Amazon and found these towing mirrors as well, manufactured by a company called "Trail Ridge"
Here's my review....
Verified Purchase
These fit (2005 - 2015) Tacoma trucks. The functionality is Awesome!! I installed on my 2011 Tacoma Prerunner Dbl Cab V6. My truck already had power mirrors, so "PLUG & PLAY" made for an easy installment. Everything I was expecting is found in these tow mirrors. I ordered the power tow mirrors for towing our TT, and boy these are the ticket! We're now being able to tow safely without any seeing limitations or vibration when towing or just town driving. I highly recommend this product from 1A Auto. Better yet, I no longer have to use the ratchet straps style tow mirrors. Easy installation, made it a breeze with a great price and very well made product. I HIGHLY recommend this for anyone else who might be looking for a great tow mirror specifically for Tacoma trucks!! Thanks again 1A Auto and Amazon!!

I love mine, too! My Taco is a '17 with mirrors that are heated, have a turn signal, and blind spot detection. The mirrors I got have all that. A minor detraction is that the mirrors that have all those bells and whistles only come in chrome and I had been hoping to paint them to match. When I was using strap-on mirror extensions, meeting a semi on a two-lane road sometimes caused the mirror to fold in. These mirrors stay put, but still fold in when you want them to.
But the OP will need to make sure they will fit his 4Runner. The OEM mirrors look the same, but 1A Auto Parts does not show them fitting a 4Runner.

Our 4 Runner is a 2013.
Those really look fantastic and are so functional looking.
I would think they would work too, so I called the company and they said they would Not fit.
That is crazy because I’m like you, I thought the Tacoma and 4 Runner were the same on the front too?

The company said they wouldn’t fit.
I am just not convinced that is correct, because I thought the Tacoma and 4 Runner were alike on the front part.

I sold my '11 Tacoma with the those mirrors still installed on it. Not sure what the buyer thought, since I traded it in for a New Ram. Which tows way more safer.
