Hitch for new 22' trailer

Been lurking for awaited.... Finally contributing some content! I have purchased a new Rockwood Roo 183 that is about 22' long and 4700 lbs dry. I am trying to decide what WD HITCH to purchase. My dealer refuses to sell for anything lower than list + install, so I pan to buy myself and pay them to install.

I think I've narrowed it down to the e2 Trunion 8K and the Equalizer 10K. My TV is a 2015 4x4 F-150 SuperCrew short bed. I thinking the Equalizer isn't worth the extra money for my trailer. Would I see a benefit with the Equalizer? The dealer wants to install the e2 round bar for $600. Thanks!

hitch for 22 tt

We tow a 22 foot micro-lite using a reese strait-line wh hitch with 800lb bars. Part# included are 66021 and 26002. Easy setup and take down. Can do install yourself if you are handy. Drilling frame involved...good luck

Which ever hitch you buy DO NOT pay $600 for the dealer to install. It is a couple of hours tops and chances are they will do it wrong anyway. Also if they set it up with the camper empty you will probably need to adjust it after you pack everything in the TT.

Even though you are overjoyed with your new TT it will not be long before you decide bigger would be better,,,,,, Yes it will. Get the Equalizer 4 point with sway control. When you go heavier, and you will, the most you would need is heavier bars. Easy to set up yourself and use. The Equalizer 4 point is worth a whole lot more than the difference you mentioned,,, safer too.

I bought the old style round bar with chains and friction sway bar from ETrailer for $249 and free delivery. My dealer mounted it during my PDI. For free or more correctly, negotiated that they do it when we closed the deal on price.

If they didn't do it without charge I would have done it. ETrailer has videos and explicit instructions on line.

My question is where the hell do you guys get these dealers who charge extra for something that SHOULD BE PART OF DELIVERY.

I agree, it should be part of delivery. I had every intention of doing it myself until I talked to a service guy there who acted like they couldn't let me drive away without them doing it.

I did try to negotiate the hitch into the deal at the end and they claimed I was already at their bottom and they couldn't do it.

I plan on buying the hitch, getting it all prepped myself, and having it with me when I pick it up. If they insist on doing it, they can do it as part of the delivery, or I'll take the trailer down the street and do it my self at the in-laws. Thanks for the advice!

As a side note id be looking for a new dealer. Every new camper I have purchased has come with a laundry list of extras at cost the day of purchase including hitch at basically 1/2 of asking price with free install.

I second this. I run a 12k Equalizer on a similar sized TT, works great. No drilling required, but does require some large sockets to install. Dealer installed mine, then I took it home, read the manual, and set it up correctly.

Check out RVW for great prices on the 4pt Equal-i-zer and the E2.
And free shipping.

$600 for the E2 is a ripoff.

New Roo 183 is only around 4000 dry, and 4768 GVWR.
Did you mean to say 4700 "dry"?
Is this a front deck model (toy hauler)?

I use the husky centerline TS, similar to the equalizer but less expensive. The head of the hitch is smaller. I started with equalizer and swapped for centerline

I have the same setup - Roo 183 and a 2015 F-150 Supercrew short bed. I got the e2 6k trunion on the recommendation of my dealer who is very experienced with both the Fastway and Equalizer products. He swore that I would be 100% satisfied with the e2 or he would upgrade me to an Equalizer. He was right and I am completely happy with the e2. Towing is great - no sway or bouncing on the road. Hitching and unhitching are easy. Let me know if you have more questions.

I agree with your dealer on the current camper. I would have suggested the E- 4 point as it will be easier and less expensive to change bars to make you happy WHEN you get the next TT.

I did end up buying the Equalizer 4-point 10k. I got it for $434 on dyers.com, plus the ball. I figured for not much more than the e2, it made sense. I'm sure it is probably overkill though. Delivery date is in 3 weeks. They are going to install it for 1/2 hr labor, $65. Then I can adjust later. Thanks!

You will be happy WHEN, not IF, you buy your next TT. At the most you will only need heavier bars.

I am a believer of doing it yourself. Understanding how its installed will alert you to problems much sooner. If you take the ball somewhere to have it torqued properly in lieu of buying large expensive tools you might only use once. Then you can install the rest yourself, if you don't have the tools to do so, go buy them. You might need to make adjustments or check for tightness from time to time. You can get away with Harbor Freight stuff to cut costs.
