Holes in the Hitch

It may be a dumb ? But Is there a reason for the ball unit having two holes in it. I always just thought it was to move the TT closer or farther from the TV But not sure. Maybe It Changes the Weight on the TV?

Not sure without a picture, but I think these holes you're describing are for anti-sway bars. Some hitch set-ups have anti-sway bars that are separate pieces and can be installed either to the right or left of the hitch ball. (Both sides are recommended if your TT is over a certain length) The holes are for smaller balls that the anti-sway bars connect to. Google "anti-sway hitches" and you'll see the different set-ups.

Ooops! Just re-read your post. Now I'm really confused. Sounds like the holes are not situated the way I was imagining them. I'm curious to see what other answers you get!

I have hitches with multiable holes I use it in different positions for different trailers some of them are wider and shorter and it helps with swing.

Hi Joe,
I'm not sure what you are referring to.

I'll try to help with these two pics that I borrowed off of rv.com, but I hope that someone with a Reese Dual Cam can help you (I have only used Equal-i-zer).

Do one of these show the two holes for the hitch ball that you refer to?

Can you post a picture of your setup?

Some vehicles have the reciver hitch tube further under the bumper and the holes allow clearence so it doesn't interfere with the bumper, the closer you get it to your vehicle the better

I hope someone can help you with that, Joe. Sorry, I only can get the pics. The Reese is different enought from the Equal-i-zer that I would only be guessing.

They are the same size used them both didn't notice any diff. so thought it was just to bring it closer to the TV . Just was wondering if it had anything to do with weight dist. Thanks for all the great info

I get it.
The farther you can put the shank into the receiver the closer the trailer will be to the TV and there is a higher tongue weight and pull weight available.

Thanks I knew some one would know because I sure didn't. So If I understand right the farther in you put it the more tongue weight you have?

Something about that statement just doesn't sound right.

Place the receiver as far in as you can. That will allow less lift to the front of the tv by reducing the length of the receiver bar into the fulcrum point (the hitch).

In other words use the hole closest to the ball on the receiver bar if that doesn't interfere with your tv or proper towing. Move to the next hold back if it does.

The extra hole is to stick the shank out further so there is more clearance for tight turning. This it what reese themselves said when I called them.
Like others have said though, the closer or shorter the better as long as you can turn without anything hitting.
My concern to reese was that I found their hitch, and others as well, to stick out too far already. This only makes everything that you are trying to achieve with weight distribution and anti sway more difficult. In a nutshell, shorter the better. Hope this helps. Cheers
