Husky Center Line TS question

I took possession of my new 2018 Puma camper two weeks ago. The dealer installed a Center Line TS hitch for me. It performs perfectly and tows great.

The question I have is that I was reading the installation manual and see it mentions about using a J spacer on the sides of the unit to take up space. On inspection of my hitch I see a tiny bit of space but the installer didn’t use the J spacer. Should I be concerned? Have it re-setup? I didn't see the installer assemble the hitch so I didn't see the J spacers if the hitch kit came with them. I'm not even sure how thick they are.
Anyone have a Center Line TS assembled without the spacers?
I’m attaching a couple photos of the hitch for review.

When I set mine up I used one spacer, that was all I needed. If I remember it comes with 4 or 5 spacers

Husky Center Line TS question

I would be in contact with Husky and send them the pictures to see what they say. To me I think you need to fill that gap. So I would also contact that dealer and find out where they are. It doesn’t look like a huge issue till you put 5000-10000# on it. Over time I could see this being a issue and they may not warranty it if issues come up.

Good luck
Tim

I have a new in the box Centerline TS hitch sitting in my garage that I haven't installed yet I will check and see how many J shims came with it and let you know.

Thanks to all the replied!
I did get in touch with Husky tech support and sent them the same photos plus a couple others they asked for. Their take on it is that the setup is fine as is. No problems with it. They did say I may be able to fit one shim in from what they saw but it wouldn’t be nessasary. BTW... I do have that in writing in the form of an email should anything ever come up in the future.
If I need to ever readjust it I may try to put one in but I need to get some first. The dealer didn’t give them to me. I’m going to call and ask for them.

Thanks again!
Keith

You said it! We’ve had the camper at the house for two weeks doing things to it. We have reservations at a favorite park we used to go to years ago in a week. We had a camper but sold it because we didn’t have the time. Now we do!

Thanks for that! Now if I could ask a huge favor, do you have a caliper to measure the thickness? Or about what the it is using a ruler.
Maybe just a side view photo would help.
Thanks again!

I would think the 3/4 J-shims be placed to prevent the U channel from "Deforming" when tightened against the Shank! They should be placed "Between" the shank and the U channel! The Factory shows placing the J-shims on the Outside of the U channel, this will allow the Channel to be "Distorted/Smashed" against the Shank! Between the two like I said would "Prevent" Distortion and allow easy removal in the future! Tighting the 3/4 bolts to 380 foot lbs will Distort the U channel! Youroo!!

X2, shims on the outside are totally useless.

I used calibers to measure it was too dark to see the reading in the pic but the shims are 1mm wide.

I don't have a feeler gauge but I do have a spark plug gap gauge could I use that ?

On a side note out of curiosity since I will be setting up my Husky Centerline TS soon I emailed Husky and asked them about the shims and was told only use them on the outside of the U channel and as long as the bolts were torqued to 380lbs to have that space in the Uchannel was fine I used KK5FE pic has a reference to them so I guess I will go with tech support says.

Bringing this back to the top......
Awesome. We left with the camper for the first time today. Got to the park in about an hour. Go to take the hitch off the truck and see part of it came loose a little.
The bolts are still rock tight but the shank moves a tiny bit back and forth. Didn’t do that before. So now I have to find someone with an impact wrench to come put it back right again before we leave. And the shims..... We will be here for seven days so I’m sure I can find someone.
This could have gone bad real quick.

Found out what it was. The 5/8 inch jam nut under the ball came loose a little.
Not as bad as I thought but bad enough. But all that points to is check the tork on everything.
I wonder why they don’t put a lock washer under the jam nut?
