Husky Centerline WD Hitch Setup

I am installing a Husky WD hitch and the hitch ball is supposed to be 1" above the coupler socket. I've gotten it to where it's 1.5" above the coupler socket but if I try to move it to a lower hole on the shank it will drop it down to where it's only .5" above the coupler socket. Since I can't get it exactly to the 1" mark is it better to be 1/2 inch higher or a 1/2 inch lower?

Better to be slightly nose down than nose up.

The answer really depends upon how the trailer rides when hooked up. Ideally you want a level tow vehicle and trailer when fully loaded in your standard head to the campground configuration.

Sorry, I probably didn't make myself clear. What I'm asking is that the instructions say that the hitch ball assembly should be installed on the shank so that the top of the hitch ball is 1" above the height of the coupler top when they are both unhitched. Using the available slots in the shank I can only get the top of the hitch ball to be either 1.5 inches above or .5 inches above the top of the coupler. So, is it better to be 1.5 inches higher or .5 inches higher given that I can't get it exactly the 1" that I'm supposed to?

I agree, start with 1.5" higher. But final adjustments should be made with everything loaded and connected.

I would go to the 1.5" setting as well. Realistically, if you set it up and then put some stuff in the bed of your truck, it could compress the suspension a little more to act closer to the 1"

Do it my way and you get to adjust and torque everything twice. My Equalizer is adjustable in 1" increments and when I changed trucks I went through the same issue. I started 1/2" low, torqued everything to spec, and the TT was definitely pointed downhill when I hooked up. Took it all apart and went 1/2" high, and the TT is right-on level. If there is a next time I'll start high. Either way you start, the worst case scenario is you have to join my club and do it twice.

I wrote a similar reply and it got thrown out when I signed in 😡
After I flipped my axle, I had to flip the drawbar (or stinger). First time adjusting for extra height left it a little too front low after installing the spring bars. 2nd time is quicker with experience 😎
Moved it up next hole and it’s perfect as the adjustments allow.
IOW, that one inch above coupler in the initial setup is a STARTING POINT.

Husky WD Hitch

Thanks for everyone's advice and suggestions. I went with the 1.5" suggestion and it worked great. Everything set up perfectly and looks good to go. Now, I will head to a CAT scale and start weighing everything. I really want to see how much weight it transferred and what my hitch weight is.
