Ignition on Toad in Accessory or not?

Hello all! We just dropped a boatload of money to switch from a tow dolly set up to four flat. This was supposed to be easier but not so much.
We have a 2013 Fiat. When we picked it up from install, the tech said the ignition must be in the accessory position. I thought this was to prevent the steering wheel from locking. But the 2013 Fiat does not have a locking steering wheel. Can I leave the key out (in neutral and e-brake off) and just tow?

And bonus points if anyone has been able to figure out the IRV Shadow braking system. I finally got it to pair and now I'm getting a whole bunch of error messages saying that the braking system has been disabled because it doesn't think the power umbilical is attached to the toad. It is!

This should probably be two separate posts. Sorry.

At any rate, if anyone can shed light on either of these issues, I'b be grateful. Supposed to leave on a very long trip tomorrow.

Thanks and be well!!!

Sounds like the brake system requires 12 volt power to operate. Where does it get that power? If it’s plugged into a vehicle accessory outlet then that may be why the key position is essential. Most but not all vehicles don’t have power available with the key off (Ford E450 class c chassis’s are always powered).

If that’s the case just run a switched line direct from the battery or other continuous power source to the brake controller. As far as the error message I suggest you call the manufacturer. They usually are very helpful.
